Heavy-Duty Flow Racks combine rugged design and flexibility.

Press Release Summary:

Constructed using 42 mm pipe and joint system, heavy-duty flow rack supports 1,200 lb of boxes and totes. Racks are 72 in. wide, 40 in. deep, and 60 in. tall and meet all flow lanes restrictions within ergonomic zone. While top and bottom levels each have 5 flow lanes, middle level has 4. Flow lane widths can be modified to match box or tote widths as needed. Flow lanes feature low-friction, heavy-duty skatewheel conveyors that allow shallow flow lane angles.

Original Press Release:

Simplified Heavy-Duty Flow Racks for National Beverage Company

The rugged flow racks handle the rigors of the company’s industrial environment yet have the flexibility for multiple uses.

Creform Corporation, Greer, SC, has designed and developed a heavy-duty flow rack using its 42mm pipe and joint system to provide strength, rigidity and flexibility.  The beverage company needed flow racks in its new manufacturing facility to hold production line supplies that were contained in a variety of heavy boxes and totes of different sizes.  In addition, because these containers can change from time to time, the width of the flow lanes needed to be easily adjusted.  The company did not have the personnel available to assemble the flow racks so Creform not only designed but built and delivered the finished units.

The flow racks have a 1,200 lb capacity, which was deemed more than adequate to safely hold the heavy boxes and totes.  The racks are 72" wide, 40" deep and 60" tall meeting all the flow lanes restrictions within the ergonomic strike zone.  The top and bottom levels each have five flow lanes and the middle level four.  The flow lane widths can be easily modified to match box or tote widths should they change.  The flow lanes feature Creform low-friction, heavy-duty skatewheel conveyors.  These allow shallow flow lane angles, for repeatable container flow and FIFO presentation and suitable for both corrugated boxes or plastic returnable totes.

The flow rack leveling feet can compensate for uneven floor conditions and could easily be changed over to casters should mobility become a requirement.  The height of the racks also allow them to fit easily under pallet racks in the company’s dedicated warehouse space should that need arise.  42mm pipe is available in 12 different colors including ESD coated for static sensitive applications.

The Creform 42mm pipe and joint system also provides the rigidity needed for applications such as this without using angled or cross bracing.  This makes the building of structures less labor intensive while requiring fewer components.  Plus, should adjustments be required in the future there are less metal joints to unbolt and retighten.  These Creform racks are available in kit form for those who would  like to do their own assembly.

The Creform System is used to create an array of material handling and efficiency enhancing devices, including special purpose and trailer carts, flow racks, roller conveyors, workstations, and AGV/AGCs. The Creform System is a proven component in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing programs, and the company partners with customers in developing and implementing these programs.
