Gas Shut-Off Valve targets small residential gas meters.

Press Release Summary:

Operated by low-energy DC motor that delivers high level of intrinsic safety, GML Linear Valve is designed with aerodynamic geometry to minimize flow resistance, resulting in extremely low pressure drop for optimized gas grid efficiency. With energy level far below regulatory safety level, DC motor negates need for added protection circuit and eliminates possibility of electronic component failure.

Johnson Electric Launches Gas Shut-Off Valve for G1.6 / G2.5 Gas Meters

Highest Level of Intrinsic Safety in Gas Flow

Hong Kong — Johnson Electric today announced the GML gas shut-off valve for small residential gas meters. This new linear valve utilizes the industry’s safest DC motor technology.  The new valve is operated by an extremely low-energy motor that delivers the highest level of intrinsic safety. The GML valve is designed with an aerodynamic geometry to minimize flow resistance, resulting in extremely low-pressure drop for improved gas grid efficiency.

Gas shut-off valves must meet the ATEX safety requirements utilizing motors that comply with the IEC 60079-11: 2012-06 intrinsic safety standard for gas group IIA and IIB. The traditional industry practice is to add a protection circuit with several diodes to reduce the available energy below the specified safety limit. Johnson Electric has developed a new DC motor with an energy level far below the regulatory safety level. This negates the need for an added protection circuit and eliminates the possibility of an electronic component failure. The GML valve design takes intrinsic safety to the highest level.

“The GML gas shut-off technology sets a new standard in performance critical areas such as intrinsic safety, reliability and compact design,” said Jim Dick, Johnson Electric’s senior vice president of Strategic Marketing.
