Gaging Fixtures measure difficult surfaces in seconds.

Press Release Summary:

MarSurf(TM) Fixtures measure automotive component surfaces right on shop floor. Five units measure cylinder walls, thrust faces on journals and crankshafts, standard bore surfaces, deep bore surfaces, and deck faces on blocks and cylinder heads. Built as modular series keyed to requirements of each component, fixtures automatically position gage probe and enable operators to complete entire measurement process with touch of 1 or 2 buttons.

Family of Surface Finish Gaging Fixtures Measure Automotive Components on Shop Floor

Easy-to-Use MarSurf(TM) Fixtures Measure Difficult Surfaces in Seconds

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Mahr Federal has introduced a new family of surface finish gaging fixtures specifically designed to measure difficult and often inaccessible automotive component surfaces right on the shop floor. Specifically built for use by operators, the MarSurf(TM) family of fixtures are easy to use and provide accurate, reliable surface finish measurements in a matter of seconds.

The MarSurf family consists of five dedicated fixtures to measure cylinder walls; thrust faces on journals and crankshafts; bore surfaces-both on standard bores, and on deep bores such as crankshaft bores on engine blocks; and deck
faces on blocks and cylinder heads. Built as a modular series keyed to the requirements of each specific component, the fixtures automatically position the gage probe and enable operators to complete the entire measurement process with the touch of a single button or two.

For example, the MarSurf CB 2 gage is designed to measure surface
roughness on cylinder walls, sleeves, or any large bore. Constructed using non-marring components, and pneumatically operated, the unit will position itself within any bore in a range of 77 mm (3.02 in.) through 106 mm (4.21 in.). At the
touch of a button, pneumatically operated positioning pads retract, allowing the fixture to be inserted, while a blast of air cleans the area of surface to be measured. Releasing the button extends the probe protection pad, automatically positioning the gage and lowering the probe gently onto the wall surface. At the touch of a second button, the appropriate measurement is taken and recorded. The entire measurement cycle takes as little as 15 seconds.

The MarSurf TF 1 measures thrust face walls on journals and crankshafts. The gage is designed to exactly align the unit with the thrust face surface with no operator technique involved. Drive components are fully encapsulated in the handle, and components not specific to the application are standardized for
quick delivery and easy repairs. The tooling portion of the thrust face fixture is manufactured to the specific dimensions of the shaft or journal to be measured. The operator simply inserts the MarSurf TF 1 into the thrust area until it is fully
seated, then depresses a single button to initiate the measurement cycle. As with other units in the family, calibration is accomplished by inserting the assembly into a calibration fixture and pressing the measurement button.

Other fixtures in the family include two bore fixtures, the BF 1 for regular bores and CR 1 for deep bores. Also using non-marking components and pneumatic auto-sizing, the CR 1 incorporates a stop/handle assembly with a fixed-depth indicator, and can measure bore positions as deep as 500 mm (19.68 in).

The deck face fixture, the MarSurf DF 1, offers optional magnets to facilitate set-up and probe positioning, and also provides fast, reliable measurement at the touch of a button.

The automotive component fixtures in the MarSurf family are available separately or as a complete package specifically configured for the user's manufacturing operation.
