Berk-Tek and Ortronics Introduce NetClear GTS

Category 6 FTP Cabling System Provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet Support Within IEEE and TIA Requirements

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. and NEW LONDON, Conn., Jan. 21 -- Berk-Tek and Ortronics announced today the launch of the NetClear(R) GTS Category 6 FTP cabling system for guaranteed support of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, as identified by the IEEE 802.3an and TIA standards committees. The NetClear GTS system guarantees 10GBASE-T support today, with immediate product availability and no limitations on channel length, patch cord length, or patch cord configurations within standards compliant channel configurations. NetClear GTS is an addition to XG LAN(TM), the NetClear family of solutions designed to support the complex requirements of 10 Gigabit networks using either copper or fiber optic cabling.

NetClear GTS combines Berk-Tek Guardmark(R)-6 FTP cable and Ortronics Clarity(R) 6 shielded connectivity to provide over 22Gb/s of channel capacity, well above the 18 Gb/s that is estimated is needed to achieve the IEEE bit error rate target for 10 Gigabit Ethernet support. No UTP cabling system available today can match the channel capacity offered by the NetClear GTS solution.

The NetClear GTS cabling system utilizes proven shielding techniques in the manufacture of cables, patch cords, and connectors. This shielding virtually eliminates Power Sum Alien Near End Crosstalk (PSANEXT) in the channel, bringing it well under the current IEEE and TIA targets, even when measured using the most stringent 6-around-1 test method. No UTP cabling system available today can match the alien crosstalk performance of the NetClear GTS system. In addition, no UTP cabling solution on the market has addressed Alien Far End Crosstalk (AFEXT), an important source of interference that has been identified by the IEEE. The NetClear GTS cabling system is the only system with alien crosstalk performance (both ANEXT and AFEXT) that has been third party tested by ETL, an important assurance when considering a solution to install today that is guaranteed to support the final 10GBASE-T standard.

The XGLAN family of cabling systems from Berk-Tek and Ortronics today provide the most comprehensive and highest performing array of 10 Gigabit solutions in the industry. XGLAN solutions include the NetClear MM10 multimode fiber cabling system that offers the industry's longest channel lengths for 10GBASE-SR - 600 meters using economical 850nm optics. "The addition of the NetClear GTS system provides worry-free, guaranteed 10 Gigabit Ethernet support without hidden distance limitations, uncertainty over Alien Crosstalk compliance, or hassles with long, unwieldy patch cord lengths," comments Dan Kennefick, copper products business manager for Berk-Tek. "Plus, with pathway space at a premium in today's data centers and enterprise networks, the Guardmark-6 cable in the NetClear GTS system is smaller than the 10 Gigabit UTP cables currently available."

Today Berk-Tek and Ortronics continue to provide their combined engineering expertise to the IEEE 802.3an and TIA standards committees and are helping to define the final requirements for 10 Gigabit Ethernet over twisted pair cables. "The current drafts of these standards are still in a state of flux, with key measurement procedures and performance limits yet to be finalized," states Gregg Lafontaine, senior product manager for Ortronics. "However, because of the pioneering work already done by Berk-Tek and Ortronics, there will soon be a NetClear 10 Gigabit UTP cabling system released that will continue the legacy of providing the industry with maximized dynamic performance for real world networks."

This new UTP cabling system will provide guaranteed compliance to all current and future 10G channel specifications identified by the IEEE and TIA committees with maximum flexibility. In short, as part of the XGLAN family of solutions from Berk-Tek and Ortronics, the NetClear 10G cabling system will guarantee authentic 10 Gigabit performance.
