New Product from Thomas & Betts Provides Safe Solutions for Raised Decks

MEMPHIS, Tenn., – The new Red•Dot® Deck Grommet™ Pro Floor Box from Thomas & Betts (T&B) eliminates the safety hazard of cords plugged into outdoor post or wall-mounted outlets, providing a safe and aesthetic solution for outdoor raised-deck applications.

"The Deck Grommet™ Pro enables small appliances on raised decks to be powered safely and conveniently by eliminating the draping of power cords along the deck surface," said Chad Smith, global product group manager, wire management and connectivity, at T&B. Whether in use or not, the Red•Dot® Deck Grommet™ Pro Floor Box keeps the power outlet recessed below the raised deck’s surface. It is hardwired to add power outlet service to any part of a raised deck.

Its safety and aesthetic features make the Deck Grommet™ Pro Floor Box ideal for residential outdoor living spaces and light-commercial raised-deck applications, such as outdoor restaurants and hospitality recreation areas. It provides easy access for small appliances, lighting and water feature pumps. A duplex adapter plate is included for use with conventional TR/WR duplex receptacles.

The Red•Dot® Deck Grommet™ Pro Floor Box complies with National Electric Code® (NEC®) Section 406.9 (B) (1) and 590.4 (D) (2) for unattended in-use plugs in wet locations and “extra-duty” outlet box hoods, which are now required for any installation. It is also cULus compliant (compliant with Underwriters Laboratories in Canada and the United States) and compliant with NEMA 3R enclosure ratings for protection against falling rain, sleet, snow and external ice formation.
