Multenet eModem - Dual SIM Ethernet EDGE Modem

Blackheath, Western Cape, South Africa — Multenet Technologies (Pty) Ltd. today announced the launch of its new dual-SIM eModem – an Ethernet modem supporting GPRS and EDGE connectivity.

Phil Blain, Multenet’s marketing manager, says the eModem offers customers a cost effective easy to deploy solution for low bandwidth applications.

“The eModem enables basic Ethernet to ppp connectivity across the GSM network, without having to deploy high cost, complex router solutions” he explains.

Blain says Multenet came to the idea for the eModem when customers asked for a low cost cellular modem which was Ethernet enabled. The device is ideally suited to low bandwidth applications such as ATM, biometric and SCADA. In addition, optional dual SIM configuration, in combination with a configurable link test service increases device availability. Configuration is either via a graphical web interface or a text interface using telnet.

And in addition, Multenet expedited the issue of connectivity, including the steps involved in signing up with ISPs and obtaining SIM cards for routers, and the technically challenging exercise of communicating point-to-point across cellular networks.

Both these issues were resolved with the launch of Multenet’s Private APN, a private network specifically designed for Multenet clients. Multenet Private APN clients receive SIM cards with statically assigned IP addresses upon sign-up, and upon activation are immediately able to communicate point-to-point across the cellular network.
