Eddy Current Comparator runs automatically after setup.

Press Release Summary:

Varimac V tests metal parts, bar, wire, and tubing for variations in physical characteristics such as alloy, hardness, case depth, and heat treatment. Selective circuits optimize differentiation between signals for wanted and unwanted conditions. Frequency range of 100 Hz to 2 MHz enhances selectivity, while 20 GB hard drive handles all data storage for setups and reporting. Testing can be observed on remote monitor without going out to plant floor.

Magnetic Analysis Corporation (MAC) Offers The Varimac V Eddy Current Comparator

MOUNT VERNON, NY/August 14, 2003 - The Varimac V, the latest in Magnetic Analysis Corporation's (MAC) line of eddy current comparators, provides fast and accurate testing of metal parts, bar, wire and tubing for variations in physical characteristics such as alloy, hardness, case depth, and heat treatment.

The system's simple setup requires only its electronics, a test coil, a balance coil, a sample of the part or product to be tested, and a monitor. After setup, the Varimac V runs automatically. Testing can be observed conveniently on a remote monitor in another location without going out to the plant floor.

Features of the system include high sensitivity and resolution, as well as selective circuits to optimize differentiation between signals for wanted and unwanted conditions. A new, broader frequency range (100 Hz to 2MHz) enhances selectivity, while a 20 GB hard drive can handle all the data storage needed for setups and reporting. Further, thresholds can be conveniently set while viewing the results on a monitor. This allows customers to choose the most effective threshold based on amplitude, phase, or a combination of both to detect the exact condition they need to find.

The Varimac V can be used with MAC's Parts Gate systems to sort parts at speeds up to six parts per second into "acceptable," "below specification," and "above specification" tracks.

This is especially useful for testing parts such as fasteners, bearings, and other cold-formed pieces. Alternatively, the outputs can be used for markers and other operations. The Varimac can also be operated in conjunction with other parts handling systems. The system's high-speed, continuous operation and reliability in production environments make 100 percent inspection of parts economically feasible. In addition to parts testing, the Varimac V is also frequently used on line to verify alloy, grade and hardness in bar, wire and tubing, and to identify accidentally mixed grades.
