Dual Linear Regulator offers 300 mA/channel.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in 1.6 x 1.6 mm MLF® package, MIC5335 Ultra-Low Dropout Voltage Regulator integrates 2 independently controlled LDOs. It offers low dropout of 75 mV at 300 mA and PSRR of greater than 65 dB at 1 kHz under low input-to-output voltage conditions typically encountered when powering RF circuitry from Li-Ion battery. Operating from -40 to 125°C, device features turn-on time of 30 µsec and includes current limit and thermal shutdown protection.

Micrel Introduces Record Breaking Dual 300mA ULDO

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 8 /-- Micrel Inc., (NASDAQ:MCRL), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today launched a new addition to its family of tiny dual ultra-low dropout voltage (ULDO(TM)) linear regulators. The MIC5335 offers a record 300mA/channel in a tiny 1.6 x 1.6 mm MLF(R) package with a package height of just 0.6 mm. The devices are targeted at advanced portable applications including cellular phone RF power, camera modules, imaging sensors for digital still and video cameras, PDAs, portable media players (PMP) and PC cameras. The MIC5335 is currently available in volume, with pricing starting at $0.75 for 1K quantities.

"The MIC5335 is the smallest dual LDO on the market capable of providing 300mA per output," said Ralf Muenster, Micrel's director of marketing for power products. "As today's mobile phones move from voice to media centric devices, current requirements for applications such as Bluetooth, WLAN, WiFi, camera accelerator DSPs and RF circuitry are also increasing. Micrel's new chip provides system designers with the smallest possible form factor for these demanding applications."

The MIC5335 also offers the industry's lowest dropout for a 300mA dual LDO with 75mV@300mA, allowing longer battery life and a high PSRR (>65db @ 1kHz) under low input-to-output voltage conditions typically encountered when powering RF circuitry from a Li-Ion battery.

The device integrates two independently controlled high performance LDOs that offer exceptional transient performance while requiring only very small and inexpensive 1uF ceramic capacitors. The part is offered in a thermally enhanced 6-pin leadless MLF(R) package that parallels the form factor of bumped dies without the drawbacks in manufacturability and the low thermal performance of chip scale packages (CSP).

The device features a low quiescent current, a fast turn-on time of 30usec, current limit and thermal shutdown protection, and can operate from -40 degrees C to 125 degrees C.
