Designed to locate faults on all metallic cables, including twisted pair wires and coax cables, TDR2010 Time Domain Reflectometer features 800 x 400 pixel, backlit WVGA color LCD with user-definable tones. IP54-rated unit offers velocity factor of 0.20–0.99 and 5 output impedances of 25, 50, 75, 100, and 125 Ω. TDR has minimum resolution of 0.1 m and max range of 20 km, depending on velocity factor and cable type. With trace tagging function, user can maintain records of circuit details.

Original Press Release:

Dual Channel TDR from Megger Locates Faults on All Metallic Cables - The TDR2010 Features Large, High Resolution Color Display for Easy Viewing

Norristown, Pa. — Megger, one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of test equipment and measuring instruments for electrical power applications, now offers the TDR2010, a dual channel, high resolution time domain reflectometer (TDR) for locating faults on all metallic cables, including twisted pair wires and coax cables.

This new TDR features a large (800 x 400 pixels), extra high-resolution (to 0.1 m), backlit, WVGA color LCD display with user definable tones. These features give the graphic display a vibrancy that helps the user identify key events on the trace. The unit’s directional control buttons and soft keys provide easy operation.

Ideal for use by electrical service contractors, telecommunications technicians as well as cable television companies, the compact TDR2010 includes an auto set-up mode that enables the unit to be used instantaneously.

The auto set-up also helps determine the impedance of the cable under test, sets the unit accordingly and selects the optimum gain and pulse width. If necessary, the auto function can be manually overridden, allowing the user to fine tune the test and identify hard to determine faults.

The TDR2010 also features Megger’s Xpert mode for rapid identification of faults.  When the Xpert key is pressed, the unit automatically adjusts the range and gain, while positioning the cursor to the first major fault on the cable.  Pressing the Xpert key again moves the cursor to the next detected disturbance. This intuitive mode makes obtaining good results simple for even the most inexperienced user.

Megger’s TDR2010 offers full flexibility with its dual trace and dual cursor capabilities, giving the operator full control and instant notification of distance between two points.

The unit’s trace tagging function is saved into Megger’s TraceXpert software.  100 trace memories can be saved into the unit’s trace storage and later be recalled to the display for analysis or compared with an active display to help find a fault location.  Results can also be downloaded to a computer via the unit’s USB port.

The TDR2010 features five output impedances, 25 Ω, 50 Ω, 75 Ω, 100Â Ω and 125 Ω, and a velocity factor between 0.20 and 0.99.  It has a minimum resolution of 0.3 ft/0.1 m and a 60 kft/20 km maximum range depending on velocity factor and cable type.

A trace tagging function built into the unit allows the user to maintain accurate records of circuit details with every result saved.

The rugged, IP54 rated TDR2010 is ideal for use in a variety of applications including in place testing of very long cable lines where digging them up or removing them is impractical or in the preventative maintenance of telecommunication lines to detect resistance on joints and connectors as they corrode.

Technical surveillance countermeasures to determine the existence and location of wire taps as well as testing integrated circuit packages to measure liquid levels also benefit from the new TDR2010.
