Appleton Disconnect Switch Meets NEC & IEC Standards

SKOKIE, IL, January 16, 2002 ? Appleton's versatile MD2DS Series is a line of factory-sealed disconnect switches engineered to meet the performance standards of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

By meeting both standards, the switches simplify the specification and installation process, especially in areas classified as hazardous, such as petrochemical plants, off-shore drilling operations, paint factories and waste treatment centers. The switches are also rated for NEMA Type 3, 3R, 4, 4X and 12 areas, so the offer outstanding waterproof and corrosion-resistant protection.

In addition to functioning as a load disconnect switch, the MD2DS can be used as a control switch for lighting systems, conveyors, heaters and air conditioners, motor generator sets, compressors and pumps. Fused and non-fused 600VAC models are offered in 30, 60 and 100 Amp designs.

Among the many outstanding features of the MD2DS switch are: stainless steel bolts and hardware, a copper-free aluminum enclosure safeguarded by Appleton's epoxy powder finish, and an insulated, dual-color operating handle that indicates when the switch is energized. The handle can be locked in the OFF or ON position. Another safety advantage to the MD2DS is the door interlock that allows access in cases of emergencies.

Like all Appleton equipment, the MD2DS can be mounted quickly and easily maintained. Stainless steel key-hole mounting feet allow for hassle-free installation, while the hinged cover is fully removable for improved access. Conduit entries are pre-drilled and tapped for 11Z2" conduit.

The Appleton MD2DS is listed for use in Class I, Division 2 Groups, B, C, and D; Class I, Zone 1 IIC T3; Class II, Division 1; and NEMA 3, 3R, 4, 4X and 12 locations. It is also UL Listed to IEC standards for Ex de IIC T3C IP 66.
