Original Press Release:

Digital Compass Has Tiny Footprint, Big Performance

A new, low-cost, 3-axis, tilt-compensated, solid-state digital compass for OEM applications such as antenna positioning, GPS integration, attitude reference, robotics control, platform leveling, and laser range finding is being introduced by OceanServer Technology, Inc. of Fall River, MA.

The OS1000 Digital Compass is a 1" sq. PCB with an RS232 connector that can easily be embedded into another device and provides precise heading and roll and pitch data, which is ideal for rapid attitude measurement. Featuring a MEMS accelerometer for horizontal 3-axis positioning, with tilt compensation up to ±60°, this tiny compass is accurate to ±1° at level heading and offers ±0.1° resolution, depending upon the mounting and operating environment.

Designed for applications where size, functionality, and low-cost are keys to successful integration, the OS1000 Digital Compass can be supplied with a USB connection and a pressure transducer for water depth measurement. It operates on 3.5-18 VDC power, provides a 0.01-20 Hz continuous update rate, and has a simple to use ASCII interface which includes hard-iron calibration.

The OS1000 Digital Compass sells for $249.00 each or $199.00 ea. for 10; available at www.ocean-server.com , with larger quantity discounts offered.
