Original Press Release:

Sysmex America Introduces Next-Generation WAM(TM) Decision Support Software for the Clinical Laboratory

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. -- Sysmex America, Inc., a global leader in medical diagnostic testing equipment and healthcare information systems technology, today announced the introduction of an enhanced version of Sysmex WAM(TM) Decision Support Software for the Clinical Laboratory. Sysmex WAM v5.0, the latest in intelligent design middleware software, enables clinical laboratories to implement a higher level of functionality, efficiency and control over hematology workflow and results management. These enhancements aim to reduce the number of unnecessary 'hands on' smear reviews or manual differentials and optimize reflex testing for patients who need it most.  WAM is a hematology-specific middleware designed to enable clinical lab rules-driven auto-validation, management reporting and paperless processing of clinical diagnostic tests.  WAM v5.0 is currently available to Sysmex customers in the U.S.

"WAM v5.0 includes an extended delta and previous checking module that goes beyond the clinical laboratory's traditional delta checking by adding the ability to 'look back' and determine the absence or presence of flags, comments and operator alerts over a range of results," said Anne Tate, MBA MT (ASCP), SC, Group Product Manager - IT Product Management and Automation, Sysmex America, Inc. "Combined, these functions help rule out potential specimen misdraws, patient identification issues and/or analytical errors and enable technologists to further support physician clinical decision making via additional data-driven variables."

WAM v5.0 software enhancements also include additional built-in software security features, real-time status alerts for system processes, and a redesigned user interface with the same look & feel and navigation workflow of the Sysmex® XN-Series Automated Hematology Analyzers.

WAM is an integral part of many laboratory operations today, some of which are reporting up to 85% or greater of their workload directly to the laboratory information system (LIS) via WAM without technologist review.  "There is no doubt that auto-validation leads to greater lab efficiency. We now have more than 250 customers representing more than 900 sites that are using Sysmex WAM Decision Support Software for the Clinical Laboratory to help reduce patient wait times, improve workflow, and improve integration and enhance quality of care," added Tate.
