Cut Monitor measures percentage of water in oil.

Press Release Summary:

CM-6 Cut Monitor features Perm-a-Seal sensing element installed directly into main process line, which extends minimum of 15 in. and takes average of fluid capacitive property over entire length. Factory-calibrated and 11 pre-set ranges (0-50% in Light Oil and 0-80% in Heavy Oil) are included. Cote-Shield(TM) enables instrument to ignore pre-determined length of sensor, allowing extension beyond nozzle mounting and pipe elbows for accurate measurement.

New Cut Monitor from AMETEK Drexelbrook

CM-6 Draws on 50+ Years of Experience in Water Cut Measurement

HORSHAM, PA -AMETEK Drexelbrook drew on its more than 50 years of experience as the leader in capacitive-based water cut measurement in developing its new CM-6 Cut Monitor. The versatile monitor, which is used to measure the percentage of water in oil, offers unmatched accuracy, reliability and ease of maintenance.

RF Admittance has proven reliable and accurate over many years in measuring the percentage of water in oil. The typical cut monitor, however, requires a pure homogenous mixture in order to make an accurate measurement. The CM-6 relies on the unique design of its sensing element, which installs directly into the main process line without requiring spool pieces, side-arms or slipstreams.

The sensing element extends a minimum of 15 inches into the main process line, taking an average of the capacitive property of the fluid over its entire length. That ensures a smoother and more accurate response, regardless of the mixture. The monitor's onboard electronics then computes the relationship between capacitance change and water cut.

Drexelbrook's expertise in RF Admittance allows the instrument's electronics to ignore paraffin buildup on the pipe and probe. When maintenance is required, users simply remove the probe, wipe it down and re-insert. There's no need to take apart spool pieces or tie-off large pipelines. The CM-6 can be configured for any size NPT or flanged mounting and installed in any pipe diameter.

All CM-6 monitors come from the factory pre-calibrated to one of 11 pre-set ranges that have been repeatedly demonstrated around the world (0-50% in Light Oil and 0-80% in Heavy Oil). The monitor requires only one point calibration trim. Field calibration can be done anywhere along the two-wire loop using Drexelbrook's own HART® software. The monitor can be calibrated as well with a local display and keypad without the need for laptop or handheld communicators.

The device's Perm-A-Seal sensing element does not require epoxy coatings, which wear out or require expensive servicing. There are no gaskets that require constant servicing, and the sensing element will not wear out in well fluids that include large amounts of sand.

Drexelbrook's patented Cote-Shield(TM) is designed into the CM-6 Series and enables the instrument to ignore a pre-determined length of the sensing element. That ability allows the sensing element to be extended into the fluid beyond the nozzle mounting and possible pipe elbows that can affect measurement. Cote-Shield puts the sensing area of the insertion probe directly into the process stream, guaranteeing a more representative sample of the emulsion.

AMETEK Drexelbrook offers installation and start-up service on all of its cut monitor products. Factory trained service engineers are available to assist users with installation, start-up and calibration.
