Original Press Release:

Cooper Power Tools Introduces an Industry First - Wireless Intelligent Tools for Safety Critical Fastening

LEXINGTON, S.C., April 2, 2007 - Cooper Power Tools introduces the industry's first line of cordless battery tools with built-in wireless intelligence for "safety critical fastening."

Cleco® cordless tools with LiveWire(TM) technology offer cordless freedom and flexibility for increased productivity, ease of use, and feature built-in transducer and resolver technologies that deliver high accuracy and enhanced ergonomics.

The Most Cost-Effective Solution Available
Cleco cordless tools with LiveWire is the ultimate wireless error-proofing solution, and it is "Wi-Fi Certified" to function with your production requirements. One line controller manages up to 10 cordless tools, creating the most cost-effective solution available today. Line controllers maintain direct communications with plant networks and provide local data storage, troubleshooting and programmability to the cordless tools. Each tool is equipped with a unique IP address along with a 512-cycle memory buffer to ensure that no safety-critical data is ever compromised.

Cordless Design Improves Worker Productivity
The Cleco 17B Pistol and 47B Angle series give users superior torque and angle control features in a lightweight, cordless design that can deliver up to 1,000 tightening operations per battery charge. It is an ideal choice for assembly line workers performing critical fastening duty in confined or hard-to-reach areas such as the final assembly of automotive and aircraft interiors, and white goods appliances. Using wireless technology, application results are transmitted real-time to a networked line controller. With the controller and server on-board, functionality of a corded tool system is accomplished with cordless technology, creating the most productive cordless tool on the market today.

Built-in Technologies Precisely Manage Multiple Settings
Featuring on-board reaction transducer and resolver technologies that report, calculate and trend different results, the new Cleco intelligent cordless assembly tools deliver the most precise speed and angular control in the industry. A built-in operator display indicates torque and angle results to ensure the proper installation of safety-critical torque on the fly.

"With new built-in electronics, these tools can deliver the quality assurance of our popular Cleco DC Electric Tools in a lightweight, cable-free design that benefits users, who put in long hours working in critical fastening operations, especially within confined areas," said Dwayne Dupuis, Product Manager at Cooper Power Tools. "Users can easily gauge torque and angle status and then wirelessly transmit results to our Cleco line controller, saving time and increasing assembly productivity."

The tools incorporate the same brushless motor and resolver technology utilized in Cleco's proven, long-lasting corded tools, ensuring proven performance. Torque accuracy is optimized with an on-tool torque measuring board, eliminating signal-to-noise concerns found in cabled designs.
