Emerson Motor Technologies' New Cooling Tower Duty Aftermarket Motor Offers No-Hassle Installation

Replacement motor design can save contractors valuable time and money

St. Louis, MO, May 13, 2002 - Emerson Motor Technologies, a division of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), has developed a full line of Epact and NEMA Premium(TM) cooling tower duty replacement motors (2-100 Hp) designed to operate in extreme humidity conditions and corrosive environments. The motors' electrical design and customization features make installation easy.

Simplicity, flexibility and reliability are the driving factors behind the cooling tower duty motor design. For reliability, Quantum Shield(TM) inverter grade wire is used as a measure against voltage spikes and the motor frames are constructed of cast iron (140 Frame rolled steel) to provide better fits and frame rigidity. With new electrical designs, the premium efficient inverter duty motors can accommodate extended long cable length while maintaining a full range of service capabilities.

Available with popular customization such as the ability to rotate the electrical connection box and special mounting positions to meet tower configuration requirements, Emerson Motor Technologies' cooling tower duty motors offer a "no hassle" contractor replacement for a wide variety of cooling tower designs.

The motor line's flexibility also makes installation faster for contractors out in the field - a vital feature for the contractor who cannot always predict what horsepower and speed type of motor will be required for a specific job. By having a limited stock of Emerson Motor Technologies' aftermarket cooling tower duty motors on hand, a contractor can:
- Reduce unnecessary evening trips back to his motor supplier.
- Limit long drive times for replacement motors.
- Avoid temporary motor substitutions during peak operating periods
- Reduce truck motor inventory stocking costs.
- Increase billable service hours.

"Emerson Motor Technologies understands the value of drop-in installation to the contractor, that is why we designed our new cooling tower duty motor line with features that enable the job to be done quickly and without frustration," said Rob Boteler, Director of Marketing. "Our cooling tower duty motors have the features that contractors are looking for - replacement mounting dimensions, design flexibility and reliability."

Emerson Motor Technologies' new cooling tower innovations, designed for long-life and low motor maintenance, include double-sealed bearings, potted leads, bearing caps on 280 Frame and above, a heavy gasketed conduit box and cover, sealed lead openings, sealed bracket-to-frame registers, and a unique umbrella-type seal for shaft-up mounting.

These versatile motors also give contractors an array of replacement horsepower configurations, plus different voltages, rotation settings and mounting position options. The different horsepower ratings are achieved through a special design featuring four speed taps and different capacitors.

"The double-sealed bearings throughout help keep out contaminants, and field maintenance is all but unnecessary with grease that never needs to be changed," said Boteler. "We use only Exxon Mobil POLYREX EM(TM) grease as part of our ALLGUARD® Motor Quality System used on every motor. This grease provides longer life at higher loads and temperatures, has low noise properties and has good low temperature starting capabilities."

The new cooling tower duty motors will also meet NEMA part 31 and help customers' products meet the new ASHRAE 90.1 standards.
