Sierra Monitor 5100-02-IT Combustible Gas Sensor Module

Information Technology (IT) at the component level for safety and instrumentation engineers

January 25, 2006 - Sierra Monitor Corporation, Milpitas, California has proudly introduced the Model 5100-02-IT, the best of class catalytic bead Combustible Gas Sensor Module. Backed by 25 years of gas detection experience, and approved by Factory Mutual for performance, electrical safety and environment parameters, the 5100-02-IT from Sierra Monitor stands ready to manage gas risks in a range of industries.

The 5100-02-IT sensor module provides interface via 4-20 mA, Modbus RS-485 or Sierra
Monitor's proprietary Sentry bus. This is the first catalytic bead module to provide the user with FM approved 180 day calibration interval to minimize maintenance requirements. As a key member of the powerful Sierra Monitor IT Series family of gas sensor modules, the 5100-02-IT is a standalone module loaded with the features required to provide the due diligence expected in hazardous areas including:
o 180 day calibration interval (best in the industry) for reduced maintenance costs
o FM approved for performance and area safety requirements including Group B
o Fastest response time, highest accuracy, and specifications unmatched in the industry.
o Integral LED display magnet operated menu for display of gas status and easy, nonintrusive calibration
o 4-20mA, Modbus RTU and Sentry digital bus output to meet specific application
communications requirements
o Integral alarm relays may be supplemented by higher amperage control relays in the
same enclosure
o Remote sensor option and remote alarm reset enables the 5100-02-IT to meet typical
application requirements

The 5100-02-IT utilizes the proven, reliable, catalytic bead technology to monitor for
combustible gases (methane and others). Output range is 0-100% of Lower Explosive Limit
(LEL). This detector has minimal maintenance requirements and is Factory Mutual approved for six month calibration intervals. Internal, continuous self-diagnostics automatically detect and alarm any fault problem. The 5100-02-IT can be used as a 4-20 mA component or a Modbus RTU node. For higher level system capability the module can interface directly to Sierra Monitor's Sentry Controller enabling system level Modbus serial communications, area and zone alarm management, extensive system diagnostic features, LanServer interface, and multiplexed sensor connections.
