RTP Company Introduces Fluoropolymer Color Masterbatches for Wire & Cable

WINONA, MINN, USA -- (March 31, 2009) -- Global custom engineered thermoplastic compounder RTP Company has commercialized a line of melt processable fluoropolymer (MPFP) color masterbatches for the wire and cable industry. These masterbatches provide an easy-to-use solution that is ideal for coloring complex MPFP resins used as plenum space jacketing materials.

"Our introduction of MPFP color masterbatches not only extends RTP Company's product lines for wire & cable, it also provides much needed supplier diversity that processors in the industry are seeking," said Jean Sirois, General Manager-RTP Color. "RTP Company's reputation for producing custom engineered compounds -- coupled with our extensive polymer knowledge -- make expanding our MPFP product line to include color masterbatches a tremendous fit for us."

Available in 10 common wire and cable industry color-coding formulations matched to Munsell and RAL standards, RTP Company's MPFP color masterbatches are initially available in fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin systems and are expandable to include other MPFP resins as needed. Standard colors, using RoHS compliant pigments, are readily available with worldwide distribution.

RTP Company's MPFP color masterbatches make color-coding wire and cable jacketing materials easy for processors to use with low 3% let down ratios and excellent dispersion. They maintain the inherent flame retardancy and low smoke emissions that allow fluoropolymers to be used as a jacketing material for plenum spaces.

"Historically, fluoropolymers have been very difficult to modify," said Sirois.
"Because of their corrosive nature, RTP Company has acquired dedicated manufacturing equipment to be used solely for the processing of MPFP products. This equipment ensures we have the ability to offer products that perform at the highest level."

Additionally, custom color matches and engineered compounds using MPFP resins are possible to meet specific application requirements. As a full-service custom compounder, RTP Company also has thermoplastic elastomer, EMI shielding, and flame retardant product lines for wire & cable industry applications and connected devices.
