CO2 Laser Marker delivers X-, Y-, and Z-axis functionality.

Press Release Summary:

Utilizing 3-axis motion capabilities that promote visibility on deformed or curved surfaces, ML-Z 9500 Series can mark difficult shapes such as cylinders, cones, inclined planes, and spheres. System has distortion-free, 300 x 300 mm marking area and 42 mm variable focal length. Speeds up to 12,000 mm/sec on inclines, cylinders, or circular cones will not compromise character clarity, and spot size remains constant over entire marking area.

New 3-Axis Motion Control Laser Marker Solves Industry's Toughest Applications

KEYENCE Corporation, Woodcliff Lake, NJ 07677 introduces the ML-Z 9500 Series, high-speed, high quality CO2 laser marker that has the ability to mark not only in the X and Y direction, but also in the Z direction. This unique 3-axis motion allows for a multitude of advantages, such as a 42mm variable focal length, a distortion-free 300x300mm marking area, and the ability to clearly mark on difficult shapes (cylinders, cones, inclined planes and spheres).

The 3- axis motion of the ML-Z allows for outstanding visibility on deformed or curved surfaces. Marking on inclines, cylinders or circular cones at speeds up to 12,000mm/s is now possible without compromising character clarity. With the ML-Z's variable focal length, maximum spot position can be set at any focal length within a 42mm range. This range of focal length significantly reduces installation time and cost by eliminating the need for a mechanical stage that adjusts during product changeovers, or when it is necessary to mark products of varying heights.

The 300 x 300mm wide marking area of the ML-Z is largest in its class. Marking in large areas often requires moving a target workpiece using an X-Y stage, or switching the lens on a conventional laser to create a wide marking area. Using an X-Y stage increases integration costs and time, and also decreases product throughput. A wide area lens can help these problems; however, characters are often displaced or blurred at the edge of the marking area.

The ML-Z series utilizes a special lens system along with its unique 3-axis control to create this highly accurate 300 x 300mm wide marking area, eliminating the need for mechanical adjustment while maintaining character integrity. The spot size remains constant over the entire marking area due to the removal of the F-Theta lens, resulting in clear and crisp characters over the entire marking area.

The shortened wavelength version of the ML-Z is ideal when marking on transparent or translucent products. The wavelength of the laser beam has been reduced from 10.6 to 9.3 µm in order to match the heat absorption characteristics of plastics. The 9.3 µm short pulse width laser clearly marks highly visible characters in shallow incisions with fewer edges, guaranteeing high quality in marking and processing.
