Clutch Brake provides stopping and holding torque.

Press Release Summary:

Based on wrap spring clutch design, EC20 Long-Life Clutch Brake is rated for 1 million actuations at dynamic load capacity of 20 lb-in. Once spring has wrapped down, electromechanical clutch brake can accelerate loads from 0 to full speed in under 3 msec. Engagement is made with almost no slippage, and disengagement is nearly instantaneous. Available for clockwise or counterclockwise operation, typical operating speeds are 100-800 rpm, with 1,400 rpm max.

Long-Life Clutch Brake from Reell Provides Clutching, Stopping and Holding Torque

ST. PAUL, MN - The patented model EC20 Long-Life Clutch Brake from Reell Precision Manufacturing is designed to provide stopping and holding torque in addition to clutching. The compact electromechanical clutch brake features dependable operation and low power consumption for use in a variety of OEM applications. It is ideally suited for paper feed operations in copiers, collators and sorters, and is rated for one million actuations at its dynamic load capacity of 20 lb-in (2.26 N-m).

The EC20 Long-Life Clutch Brake is based on Reell's patented wrap spring clutch design. Once the spring has wrapped down, the clutch brake is capable of accelerating loads from zero to full speed in less than three milliseconds. Engagement is made with virtually no slippage, and disengagement is almost instantaneous, even under load. The unit requires a common "pick and hold" circuit to provide engagement and disengagement. Initially, the clutch brake is supplied with 24 VDC (14 watts) for engagement. This voltage is held for 50 milliseconds. The voltage is then reduced to 12 VDC (3.5 watts) to hold the brake disengaged while the clutch drives the output.

The EC20 Long-Life Clutch Brake is available for either clockwise or counterclockwise operation. Typical operating speeds are from 100 to 800 rpm with a 1400 rpm maximum. Overall outside diameter is approximately 1.5 inches (38mm) with a shaft length of 1.4 inches (35.3 mm).

Reell Precision Manufacturing Corporation manufactures custom and standard wrap spring clutches, constant-torque hinges and precision-wound springs at facilities in St. Paul, MN and the Netherlands. In addition to paper handling equipment, the company's clutches are well suited for use in automotive, appliance and power tool applications. Its custom and standard constant-torque hinges are used in laptop computers, medical equipment, enclosures and automotive applications. Reell's precision-wound springs find use in a wide variety of close-tolerance applications. For more information, contact:
