Characterization Software simplifies protein analysis by SEC.

Press Release Summary:

OmniSEC 5.1 facilitates integration of Viscotek Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) detectors with Waters Empower®-driven SEC systems for optimized protein characterization. Eliminating need to input analytical sequences in duplicate, software makes integrated system that facilitates use and offers accelerated set-up while reducing error risk. OmniSEC 5.1 BIO, also available, offers calculation methods and terminology directly tailored to needs of protein scientists.

Original Press Release:

New Software from Malvern Instruments Simplifies Advanced Protein Analysis by SEC

Malvern, UK:  Malvern experts will be presenting at The International Symposium on Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC)/Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) and Related Techniques, an event which coincides with the release of a new and improved version of their OmniSEC software for advanced protein analysis. The symposium runs from 29th Sep to 2nd Oct in Frankfurt, Germany. The new software, OmniSEC 5.1, makes it easy to integrate any of the Viscotek SEC detectors with Waters Empower® -driven SEC systems, for powerful, efficient protein characterization.

GPC/SEC involves separation of a sample on the basis of molecular size, followed by analysis of the resulting fractions with one or more detectors. Dr. Bassem Sabagh’s presentation will demonstrate the value of triple detection SEC for hyaluronic acid (HA) characterization. Entitled ‘Investigating the relationship between the rheological properties of HA and its molecular weight and structure using multi-detector SEC and SEC-MALS’, it will include experimental data showing the accuracy of the Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 detector for different HA samples. The resulting data are correlated with rheological measurements to quantify the impact of molecular weight distribution on viscosity.

Dr. Bert Postma will focus on the technology that can be used successfully to analyze low molecular weight samples in his presentation ‘Addressing the challenge of analyzing low molecular weight samples by multi-detector GPC’. The accurate measurement of low molecular weight material is a commonly encountered issue in GPC analysis.

Malvern’s new OmniSEC 5.1 has the ability to directly interrogate analytical sequences within the Waters Empower® software. By eliminating the need to input sequences in duplicate, it makes an integrated system easier to use, quicker to set-up and less prone to errors.

OmniSEC 5.1 BIO is a protein-specific version of the software with calculation methods and terminology directly tailored to the specific needs of protein scientists. Combined with the Viscotek SEC-MALS 20, the most sensitive MALS detector available, and new silica SEC columns with low shedding for protein light scattering applications, the new software makes it easier for protein scientists to access all the information required, whatever SEC system is being used.
