Casing Shoe suits exploration and geo-technical applications.

Press Release Summary:

Used to drill through overburden until bedrock is reached, CSUMX™ Casing Shoe can cut through various ground formations ranging from 1–9 on Mohs hardness scale. Patented UMX metallurgical formula enables shoe to stay sharp through crown matrix, which wears slowly during drilling to expose new, large synthetic diamonds. Razorcut™ design optimizes tracking and balance in hole, while Twin-Taper™ waterways optimize surface flushing to keep face of casing shoe clear.

Boart Longyear Launches CSUMX Casing Shoes

SALT LAKE CITY -- Boart Longyear (www.BoartLongyear.com - ASX: BLY), the world's leading integrated exploration drilling services, equipment and performance tooling provider, has released the CSUMX(TM) casing shoe, designed for exploration and geo-technical applications. The CSUMX has the ability to drill faster and outlast existing casing shoes in a wide range of ground formations.

The CSUMX is ideal for drilling contractors seeking a high performance, cost-effective alternative to their current casing shoe selection. The CSUMX has the ability to cut through various ground formations ranging from 1 to 9 on the Mohs hardness scale.

"The Boart Longyear patented technology enables the CSUMX to be highly versatile, cutting both soft overburden and hard bedrock with a high penetration rate," said Chris Lambert, global product manager for Boart Longyear. "By incorporating the Ultramatrix(TM) (UMX(TM)) formula we are able to offer the CSUMX with benefits unavailable in more expensive casing shoes at a fraction of their cost."

Casing shoes are used to drill through overburden until bedrock is reached. Many times the overburden consists of unconsolidated ground filled with till, leading to encounters with rock of varying hardness. The CSUMX allows the drillers to stick with one casing shoe, instead of changing the shoe when a difficult formation is met.

Featuring the Boart Longyear award-winning and patented UMX metallurgical formula, the CSUMX is designed to stay sharp through the innovative crown matrix, which wears slowly during drilling to expose new, large synthetic diamonds. This allows the driller to maximize the life of the casing shoe while achieving maximum depth.

The CSUMX also features the unique Razorcut(TM) design, which allows for the casing shoe to begin cutting right out of the box, even in overburden. The design also improves tracking and balance in the hole.

The Twin-Taper(TM) waterways dramatically improve surface flushing to keep the face of the casing shoe clear and to reinforce the inner diameter.
