Oce Introduces Unique 200-Page Square Spine BLM500 Book Maker

BOSTON, April 17 -- Oce (NASDAQ:OCENY), a global leader in digital document management and delivery solutions, announced it will introduce the Oce BLM500 book maker. Customers can acquire the digital components they need for profitable book publishing workflow from just one vendor, simplifying acquisition and support. Attached to an Oce cut-sheet printer, the BLM500 provides state-of-the-art online finishing. Print operations gain the assurance of a high-quality book maker that enhances the productivity of their Oce cut-sheet systems. The Oce BLM500 expands the functionality of Oce cut-sheet printers like the Oce VarioPrint(R) 6000 series, Oce VarioPrint 2000 and 3000 Titanium models and the Oce VarioPrint 2090.

A single BLM500 combines stitching, folding, spine forming and long-edge trimming to produce high quality square-spined books up to 200 pages or 10 mm thick, double the capability of previous technologies. A wide range of finished books can be produced from a single workflow with little or no operator intervention.

"Oce is committed to leading the industry in delivering digital book printing and high-end document production solutions. We strive to connect customers with best-in-breed finishing options to build premium book making workflows. We will be the first to market a book maker that can finish booklets up to 50 sheets or 200 pages with a square spine," said Eric de Goeijen, Vice President, Marketing, Oce North America. "With the introduction of the BLM500, we can help ensure print operations have all the tools they need to maximize opportunities and profits in the evolving digital printing market."

Oce has simplified the complex preparation for booklet printing by offering advanced functionality like impositioning, spine caption and creep correction in its Oce PRISMA(TM) for Printroom software suite. With Oce PRISMAproduction(TM) software, book-making workflow gains greater efficiency and productivity. It helps users route print streams, optimize resources and monitor performance. As a result, customers can drive more efficient performance, increase their service offering and revenue opportunities, and reduce costs.

The Oce BLM500 is generally available September 2007 from Oce.

About the Oce BLM500 Book Maker

The Oce BLM500 is a complete bookmaking system for digital print applications and a fast, cost-effective alternative to perfect binding or tape binding. Automated settings accommodate different book sizes and thicknesses. The maximum book thickness of 10mm is double that of alternative conventional book making machines, making it suited for higher paginations or thicker stocks. No other system offers the flexibility of eight to 200 page books on one system. It requires less capital outlay since one machine will finish virtually all production.

The finished books have the square spined appearance of perfect bound volumes, with the security of a stitched spine. Books lie flat so they are easy to pack and stack. There's no risk of loose pages, and users can print on spines. Alignment and quality remain consistent with no operator attention required. The compact footprint takes up significantly less space than other book finishing equipment.
