Abaco Systems Announces MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429 Mini PCI Express Small Form Factor Cards with Industry-Leading Ruggedness
Press release date: February 28, 2017
- First to feature unique hard tie screw-in high retention rugged connectors
- Small, light weight solutions are ideal for portable devices, highly-constrained environments
- API consistent with Abaco’s existing avionics solutions to enhance productivity
Abaco Systems today announced the rugged R15-MPCIE MIL-STD-1553 Mini PCI Express® card and RAR-MPCIE ARINC 429 Mini PCI Express card . Characterized by their first-to-market hard tie screw-in high retention rugged connector, they are ideal for harsh environments in which shock and vibration can create reliability challenges. Both units are also very small (30mm x 50.95 mm x 4.7mm) and lightweight for applications deployed in highly-constrained platforms where SWaP (size, weight and power) need to be minimized.
The R15-MPCIE supports two fully-capable dual redundant channels, giving it greater functional density than competing products and the RAR-MPCIE features eight receive and four transmit channels. It can be configured to include one receive and one transmit ARINC 717 channel. Both cards offer discretes.
Both products are designed for those working in avionics test and simulation for field test and support, and offer significant advantages and flexibility for data logging applications. The Mini PCI Express form factor and small size and weight also make the R15-MPCIE and RAR-MPCIE ideal for designers of portable devices, such as tablets and hand-held test and measurement solutions or in very small form factor mission critical systems, delivering market leading I/O density, flexibility and modularity.
The API (application programming interface) for the two new products is consistent with existing Abaco avionics products allowing customers of Abaco’s broad MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC offerings to take advantage of a proven and familiar interface, and allow for the re-use of existing code for faster development, qualification and deployment.
“The R15-MPCIE and RAR-MPCIE represent an industry first in ruggedization for Mini PCI Express avionics cards,” said Mrinal Iyengar, VP, Product Management at Abaco Systems. “They offer impressive I/O densities and flexibility, taking the features and functionality our customers value in our other products, but delivering them in a much smaller, modular form factor – and provide customers with a familiar and proven API minimizing the time required for development and deployment.”
The R15-MPCIE and RAR-MPCIE include IRIG-B signal receiver/generator with GPS synchronization and 100% monitoring of fully loaded buses as standard features. A PCIe carrier card with the ability to host four Mini PCI Express modules is also available to aid customers in development. Support is provided for Windows® 7, 8, 8.1, 10, XP, Vista (32- and 64-bit), Server 2012 R1/R2, VxWorks®, Linux® and other operating systems.
