Overview
The 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel PCI-X Adapter offers the ability to build a high-speed local and remote storage network. This adapter is a PCI-X adapter that provides single or dual initiator capability over an optical fibre link or loop running at speeds of up to 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps.
The adapter can be used to attach devices directly or through the use of fibre channel switches. With this adapter, your enterprise can support data transfer at distances of up to 500 meters running at 1 Gbps data rate between the adapter and an attaching device or switch. The adapters can be used with supported fibre channel storage switches with long-wave optics. At distances of up to 10 kilometers, these adapters can run at either 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps data rates.

Description
The 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel PCI-X Adapter is a 64-bit address/data, short form factor PCI-X adapter with LC type external fibre connectors that provide single or dual initiator capability over an optical fibre link or loop. With the use of appropriate optical fibre cabling, this adapter provides the capability for a network of high-speed local and remote storage.
The 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel PCI-X Adapter will auto-negotiate for the highest data rate (either 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps) of which the device or switch is capable. Distances of up to 500 meters running at 1 Gbps data rate and up to 300 meters running at 2 Gbps data rate are supported between the adapter and an attaching device or switch. When used with IBM supported fibre channel storage switches supporting long-wave optics, and at distances of up to 10 kilometers adapters can run at either 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps data rates.
The 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel PCI-X Adapter can be used to attach devices directly, or through fibre channel switches. If a device or switch with an SC type fibre connector is attached, the use of an LC-SC 50 Micron Fiber Converter Cable (#2456) or an LC-SC 62.5 Micron Fibre Converter Cable (#2459) is required.
