July 27, 2010 - Intended for HVAC duct fabrication and installation, S-MS HVAC Zip Screws utilize HyperThread technology, which provides tapered point and shank for consistent driving with almost no metal filings. Self-piercing units are capable of being driven at angles up to 30°. Made of carbon steel with zinc electroplating, screws come in No. 8 S-MS size driven with ¼ in. drive for 20-28 gauge applications, and No. 10 S-MS size driven with 5/16 in. drive for 18-26 gauge applications.

Innovation Comes to Fastening Ductwork

HILTI S-MS HVAC ZIP SCREWS

TULSA, Okla. - For years, conventional screws utilized for HVAC duct fabrication and installation have gone unchanged. Having to choose between sharp and self-drilling screws to cover their application range, installers were forced to choose between imperfect solutions: Sharps are preferred for their off-angle fastening but are limited to light gauge metal; self-drillers easily handle heavy-gauge materials but are prone to "walking" if not held perpendicular. Now, Hilti has blended the best of both fasteners with the new S-MS HVAC Zip Screws. The new Hilti screws utilize HyperThread technology to deliver off-angle fastening, even in heavy-gauge sheet metal.

Engineered to fasten sheet metal from 18 to 28 gauge, Hilti HVAC Zip Screws are self-piercing and are capable of being driven at angles up to 30 degrees. Hilti's HyperThread technology provides a tapered point and shank for consistent driving with almost no metal filings. Up to two layers of 18-gauge steel can be joined, and the unique head design minimizes any stress from base material displacement.

HVAC contractors fabricating and installing ductwork will find the new Hilti HVAC Zip Screws a productive choice every day. The off-angle fastening in gauges up to 28 cuts installation time, while the high-profile heads, limited metal filings and reduced "walking" increase safety.

Made of carbon steel with zinc electroplating, Hilti HVAC Zip Screws are available in two sizes: The #8 S-MS is used for applications of 20 to 28 gauge and driven with a 1/4" drive, and the #10 S-MS is used for applications of 18 to 26 gauge and driven with a 5/16" drive. Both magnetic and non-magnetic nut setters are available. The non-magnetic setters utilize a bearing in the sidewall to retain the screw.

Since there is no magnet, they remain free and clear of metal filings, saving HVAC contractor from the endless frustration of constantly having to clean the setters.

For best performance, the Hilti S-MS HVAC Zip Screws are designed to be used with Hilti's 14.4V or 18V CPC Impact Drivers and Drill Drivers.
