Dedicated Iron-Ore Analyser from Oxford Instruments
Iron ore is an abundant industrial mineral that requires stringent analytical requirements for export. The major producers of iron ores have to map the mines to select the best production areas and pre-determine the amount of processing required. Furthermore, since the price of iron ore has risen by up to 70% recently, the quality of the ore needs to be checked as it could be mixed with lower price ore. Traditionally, iron ores are analysed using wet chemistry techniques. The analysis time is long, so the number of samples analysed is limited. The requirement is for rapid, simple analysis at each mine, and for the measurement of the key elements only. All these requirements make benchtop XRF spectrometry the ideal analytical technique.
In order to provide a cost-effective solution, Oxford Instruments now offers a benchtop XRF analyser, the Oxford Instruments Lab-X3500, which is dedicated to iron ore analysis. The Lab-X3500 performs the quantitative analysis of alumina, silica, manganese and iron, and will give an indication of the level of phosphorus in the sample.
