Appro Unleashes Four Processor Workstation with Industry Leading 128GB Memory for High Performance Computing

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 26 /- Appro (http://www.appro.com/), a leading provider of high-performance enterprise computing systems, today announces the Appro XtremeWorkstation(TM) designed for professionals who require speed, high performance and efficiency when dealing with demanding compute and memory intensive applications. The Appro XtremeWorkstation is a mid to high-end x86 workstation with 128GB of DDR2 memory and offers two to four AMD Opteron(TM) 8000 series processors. The new Appro XtremeWorkstation is ideal for technical workloads in Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD), Engineering (MCAE), petroleum visualization, automotive, aerospace, electronic design, digital content creation artists, 3D modeling and CAD.

The XtremeWorkstation offers up to two PCI-Express x16 slots for high-end graphics cards such as the NVIDIA Quadro FX4500 X2 or the NVIDIA Quadro FX5500. With the 128GB of memory the new Appro workstation provides more than four times the graphics, processor and memory bandwidth, providing 25 percent lower memory latency and twice the compute power of prior models. The Appro XtremeWorkstation combines the latest in processing capability, advancements in memory, power and I/O technologies, delivering a validated optimized platform that meets the demands of today's high performance compute customers -- all in a quiet package.

"The workstation market for x86-based systems continue to show healthy growth and many users are moving to larger memory sizes and high processor counts to support their growing application requirements. The XtremeWorkstation is an example of new workstations that are designed to provide a higher level of capability that enables customers to perform application intensive projects, in less time for faster results," said Earl Joseph, IDC Program Vice President. "For the high performance computing market processor speed and memory capabilities are key customer purchase requirements."

"Appro continues to set the industry standard for high performance workstation computing systems for the demands of multi-core workstation computing," said John Lee, VP of Advanced Technology Group of Appro. "By combining four AMD Opteron 8000 Series processors today with a non-disruptive upgrade path to native quad-core processors planned for later this year, Appro delivers maximum flexibility and value to meet our customers' most demanding technical requirements for high-performance workstations."

"AMD is proud to work with companies such as Appro who are developing advanced products that have the potential to change the shape of high performance and technical computing environments," said Pat Patla, Director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE:AMD). "Based on AMD Opteron 8000 Series processors with AMD's revolutionary Direct Connect Architecture and energy-efficient DDR2 memory, Appro's new platforms offer breakthrough performance and capabilities for a flexible, energy-efficient, affordable and quiet workstation for high performance computing environments."
