Stackpole Announces the Release of the SM 4

ONE OF THE INDUSTRY'S FIRST 4 WATT SMD MOLDED WIREWOUND

RALEIGH, NC (June 30, 2009) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc., announced the release of a new 4-watt version of their SM Series of molded surface mountable wirewounds. This new larger size part also has an expanded resistance value range versus smaller SMD wirewound devices. Because of the higher power rating, the SM 4 can save space by replacing several resistors with one single device. The SM 4 is also a good choice for applications that need only 2 or 3 watts and need to keep their PCB temperatures down.

Because of the compliant terminations, the SM Series is a good choice for those applications that require resistors with 1 watt power ratings or higher, but are subject to extreme board flexion due to temperature changes or during assembly. Finally, the SM 4 offers a surface mountable option to 4 watt resistor requirements which previously would have been only offered in thru-hole parts.

The SM 4 is available in resistance values from 0.01 ohms up to 5K ohms, in TCR's as low as 20 ppm, and in resistance tolerances down to 0.1%. Standard maximum operating voltage is 100 volts, but the SM 4 can also be customized to handle much higher voltage, energy, or power. It can also be built in a non-inductive Ayton-Perry winding, or can be given a variety of fusing characteristics. The SM 4 is an ideal solution for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications with harsh environmental conditions.

Power supplies, motor controls, engine controls, remote sensing and metering, communications equipment, and remote backup power systems may all use the SM Series.

The SM 4 is available in 350 pcs quantities in embossed tape and reel.
Pricing varies with resistance value and tolerance, and ranges from $0.40 to $1.50 each in full reel quantities. Contact Stackpole directly for volume pricing.
