Comarco Adds CDMA 1xEV-DO Support for Autonomous Quality of Service (QoS) Monitor
ORLANDO, Fla. and LAKE FOREST, Calif., March 27 /- Comarco, Inc. (NASDAQ:CMRO), an industry-leading supplier of wireless test systems for field applications, today announced CDMA 1xEV-DO support in its QuOTA handset-based automated wireless network test system. QuOTA is Comarco's autonomous wireless network test system based on a distributed testing architecture.
Running as a software application directly on smart phones, QuOTA client software allows standard CDMA 1xEV-DO commercial handsets to function as Quality of Service measurement probes. Support for CDMA 1xEV-DO is provided via QuOTA software running on Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. Test types include bi-directional speech quality, using the ITU-T P.862 PESQ MOS algorithm, HTTP, WAP, FTP, Ping, MMS, and SMS. In addition to critical KPIs, QuOTA software can also collect critical network and radio parameters, including Layer 3 messaging, which can be used to help identify the cause of degraded network performance.

About QuOTA
QuOTA devices can be remotely controlled by the powerful, centralized QuOTA Control Web server. Accessing QuOTA Control through a Web browser, the user can remotely configure and schedule tests, allowing QuOTA devices to gather data automatically in the field. QuOTA devices can also be paired with Bluetooth GPS receivers to collect geographical coordinates during the tests.
QuOTA can function as a broad-scale service monitor, but can also provide enough information to identify and troubleshot specific performance exceptions of both voice and data services. QuOTA measures the critical KPI's, such as access time, success rate, throughput, MOS, or end-to-end message delivery time. QuOTA systems can also be used by wireless network engineers to monitor QoS or to pinpoint problems and optimize network performance.
Because the software runs on normal subscriber equipment, QuOTA phones may be carried by hand, and used as a normal phone, or mounted in fixed or mobile locations. QuOTA is ideally suited for both handheld interactive testing and autonomous data gathering, with no human supervision required and is both scaleable and flexible in its deployment options.
