ISSYS to Unveil New Cell Phone/Laptop Based Wireless Sensing Network at Sensor Expo 2011

YPSILANTI, MI-Integrated Sensing Systems, Inc. (ISSYS) in Ypsilanti, Michigan announced that Dr. Douglas Sparks, Executive Vice President, will give a presentation titled, "Wireless MEMS Sensor Platform Compatible with Cell Phones and Laptops," at Sensor Expo's Mobile Sensing Track on Wednesday, June 8th in Chicago, IL. http://www.sensorsmag.com/sensors-expo

The two component wireless system discussed in this session has a simple sensor and circuit that enables USB or Bluetooth communication with a portal device such as a cell phone or laptop. The portal device provides the power, communication, display, keypad, memory and data processing, lowering the wireless system cost.
  • There are more than 3 billion cell phones, with wireless transmission distances of 8-13 km, and 1 billion laptops worldwide that can serve as wireless portal devices for the sensors.
  • Software applications (Apps) for iPod®, Droid® and Blackberry® phones can be developed to make this general type of sensing network pervasive.
  • The MEMS community will be able to develop and commercially deploy wireless products quickly with this patented, modular approach.
  • Using this method for existing MEMS sensors the wireless sensor development cost and time can be reduced, and the technology applied to virtually any chemical, physical and biological sensor.
  • Traditional wireless sensors have shortcomings in the area of battery life and size, transmission range and cost due to customized designs which are overcome with this approach.

ISSYS has developed and patented (US Patent No. 7,483,805) this ubiquitous wireless sensing system. It has wide applications in medical, homeland security, first responder, analytical and industrial applications. Virtually any MEMS sensing element can be integrated into a low cost, widely accessible sensing network. We invite you to attend Sensor Expo and hear more about this exciting new technology.
