Panasonic Develops Coin-size Low-Power Bidirectional Wireless Module

Tokyo (JCNN) - Matsushita Electric has unveiled an ultra-small low-power module for bidirectional wireless communications. The rectangular module integrates a radio circuit and a microcomputer into a single CMOS chip, the world's first in 400MHz-band low-power wireless technology.

Measuring 12x16x1.3mm, only 1/60 the volume of its predecessor module, the module enables about three times the battery life of the predecessor. It can transmit data at 14.4Kbps, twice the speed of the predecessor. These features help connect a whole gamut of products to networks using the new module.

Matsushita plans to commercialize the module by fall.
