Intermec Demonstrates New Dual-Radio Wireless Access Points, Windows-Powered Color Handheld at Networld+Interop

o New MobileLAN WA21 access point nominated for wireless Best In Show by CMP Media
o 700 Color brings color screen, processing speed to mobile workers

ATLANTA, Sept. 9, 2002 - Intermec Technologies Corp. today announced the new MobileLAN(TM) access WA21 and MobileLAN access WA22 dual-radio access points. The company will demonstrate these and other products aimed at securing wireless networks and enabling the mobile worker at this week's Networld+Interop exhibition, booth #317. The MobileLAN WA21 last week was named a finalist for wireless Best In Show honors at the conference, which opens this week in Atlanta.

The MobileLAN access WA21 and WA22 are next-generation dual-radio wireless LAN access points that incorporate radios operating on both IEEE 802.11b and 802.11a protocols. Dual radio access points provide an easy, cost effective migration path to the new 802.11a technology while supporting existing 802.11b clients.

Designed for use in extreme conditions, the MobileLAN WA21 is IP54 rated by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association to withstand moisture, chemicals, extreme temperatures and otherwise harsh environments. The access point also includes an internal heater, making it ideal for wireless networks located in freezer storage or shipping and receiving docks where open doors allow cold temperatures to invade indoor spaces.

The MobileLAN access WA22 offers the same dual-radio capabilities and benefits to enterprise environments that don't require the level of ruggedness offered by the MobileLAN access WA21.

Both the WA21 and WA22 access points connect wireless handheld computers to host stations and feature IP tunneling and data tunneling capabilities, allowing mobile workers to roam anywhere throughout the enterprise without losing their network connection. With incorporated dual radios, the Aps support all 802.11 technologies including dual 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11a/802.11b, making for a smooth and cost-effective transition to the higher performance 802.11a technology.

"Intermec is building rock-solid, secure wireless communications platforms for the mobile worker," said Tom Dowd, Intermec principal product manager. "Witness what we're demonstrating at the show -- secure networking products built for use in today's wireless environments and designed to grow with tomorrow's technologies. In addition, Intermec's handheld computers truly bring freedom, functionality, even voice communications to the mobile worker, and with applications they already know and use."

Intermec's N+I product demonstrations also will include the following:
o MobileLAN(TM) secure - Multi-layered portfolio of WLAN security products that brings freedom to the mobile worker and peace of mind for IT administrators

o 700 Series Color - Mobile handheld computer that combines Microsoft(R) Pocket PC with the Intel(R) XScale processor for serious enterprise mobility

o Voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities - VoIP on the 700 series handhelds provides integrated voice communications over a wireless data network, greatly increasing worker productivity and customer responsiveness

o 3400e Wireless Printer - Available with built-in 802.11b wireless networking for instant set-up, the 3400e delivers high speed, high-resolution graphics

o 2415 Handheld Computer - Featuring Wi-Fi certified 802.11b or OpenAir radios and an internal Vista Scan engine, the 2415 is ideal for wireless data collection applications
