New Hoist Drive Powers Small Lifting Capacities

Drive Technology for Wire Rope Hoists from a Single Source

"Small but Powerful!"

ABM Greiffenberger GmbH, a systems supplier for drive technology for cranes, offers a wide spectrum of high grade complete solutions (e.g. for hoist drives). Now ABM expanded their sales program with a wire rope hoist drive for small lifting loads that excels with high lifting speeds and is classified FEM 2m.

Many midsize crane builders set for hoist and travel drives on complete solutions from ABM Greiffenberger. These systems have been specifically developed for this market segment and distinguish themselves with high functionality at favorable cost. Key element of these drive systems are high performance helical gearboxes combined with powerful brakes and flexible controller technology.

Up to know ABM offered wire rope hoist drives with varying speeds for maximum lifting loads from 5.000 to 25.000 kg. Now the ABM development engineers expanded the proven modular concept to also include smaller tonnages.

At the CeMAT 2008 the new hoist drive line GH 3201 with lifting capacities of up to 3,200 kg will be introduced. These wire rope hoist drives for drum diameters of 140 mm are easily adaptable to specific uses and can reach lifting speeds of 8 m/min with a 4/1 reeving.

High Grade, Long Life

Being classified FEM 2m already demonstrates the high quality standard of the drive unit and is the base for doubling the life expectancy at very favorable costs. High grade helical gears in the parallel shaft gearbox guarantee smoothness and minimal wear even with high loads. Powerful, specifically developed hoist motors with outputs from 0.37/ 2.5 kW up to 0.6/ 4.0 kW (12/2-poles) operate reliably even with unstable power supplies and in tough environments. They offer dynamic acceleration curves that notwithstanding soft start affirm thanks to high start, pull-up and breakdown torque reliable and sway-free lifting of loads. Integrated double disc safety brakes assure secure braking.

Two speed versions are available in four lifting speeds from 4 to 8 m/min. ABM motors are designed for minimal pole switching shock to preserve the drive and switch elements. Optionally available are also frequency controlled motors with variable speeds.

Compact Design

Aluminum housings make the drives extremely light and as inspected gearbox-motor-brake assemblies direct installation to the trolley without additional checks or tests is possible. Wire rope drum mounting in U-form allows simple and space saving assembly made even easier with positioning aids such as pins and through holes. Additionally, the compact design minimizes "dead" space not serviceable by the load hook.

Easily Adaptable to Customer Needs

The GH 3201 line is easily adaptable to crane builder's needs for different protection class and options. Hoist motors can be equipped with external fans or encoders for inverter operation.

ABM can even offer a complete line of inverters for energy efficient and careful handling of sensitive loads. Especially the proven PDC line specifically tuned to the unique requirements of lifting applications assures that complete drive solutions are available.

Complete Drive System Program for Crane Builders

This applies not only for hoist drives but for all crane drive needs. The comprehensive program offered by the ABM Lifting Division also includes powerful and high grade travel drives that complete the line of specifically designed drives for crane applications available from a single source. Beyond the current offering ABM development engineers work on additional lines for crane drives, e.g. hoist drives for higher loads and even more finely staggered travel drives.
