Miller to Revolutionize TIG Inverter Technology, Demonstrate Sub Arc Breakthroughs at AWS
APPLETON, Wis., January 24, 2003 - At AWS 2003 (booth #853), Miller Electric Mfg. Co. will introduce revolutionary new additions to its most popular families of AC and AC/DC TIG inverters as well as new wire feeding, multi-process and engine drive technologies. Miller's TIG inverters, the names of which will be revealed at AWS, build upon the trends of more power, smaller size and increased efficiency that are sweeping the welding industry today. A live demonstration will also feature a breakthrough in submerged arc welding that will drastically increase productivity, simply by switching to an AC squarewave machine and from solid wire to a tubular metal-cored wire.

The live demonstration will show how submerged arc welding productivity can be drastically increased by combining Miller's Summit Arc 1000(tm) three phase, squarewave AC machine with Hobart Brother's Tri-Mark brand Metalloy® metal cored wire. This method, compared to the standard DC electrode positive (DCEP) process with a solid wire, can increase deposition rates by more than 60 percent.
Miller will also introduce the SuitCase(tm) 8RC and 12RC remote voltage control wire feeders. These replace Miller's S22P12 feeder and implement the casing and design of Miller's SuitCase voltage sensing models that have become the standard in durability and reliability for portable wire feeders used in construction, manufacturing and shipbuilding. These feeders weigh between 22.5 lb. and 25 lb., permit wire spools in either 8-in. or 12-in. sizes and perform both MIG and flux cored welding with wires .023 to 5/64 in. in diameter.
The following products, introduced in 2002, have quickly become industry favorites in their respective fields and will also be on display:
Bobcat(tm) 250 D NT
Featuring the same three-cylinder, 18.8 HP liquid-cooled Kubota diesel engine found in Miller's Trailblazer® 301 D, the Bobcat 250 D NT welding generator performs excellent Stick, DC TIG, and flux cored welding. It is also capable of AC TIG, solid wire and carbon arc gouging with 3/16-in. carbons. The unit's rated output in CC/AC and CC/DC modes is 250 amps at 25 volts, 100 percent duty cycle. Four CC ranges (40-100, 60-140, 80-200 and 100-250) maximize auxiliary power while welding. A CV rated output of 250 amps, 28 volts at 100 percent duty cycle (275 amps, 25 volts at 60% duty cycle) allows for use of either solid or flux cored wires.
Bobcat 3 PHASE
For farmers, ranchers, concrete and asphalt contractors and others who need back-up or portable power to run pivot irrigation systems, pumps and conveyors, the Bobcat 3 PHASE offers 11,000 watts of peak (10,000 watts continuous) 480 VAC three-phase power. To run tools, lights and single-phase motors, it also offers 10,000 watts of peak (9,500 watts continuous) 120/240 VAC single-phase power. To increase productivity and flexibility, 120 VAC single-phase and 480 VAC three-phase power are available simultaneously within the continuous power capabilities of the generator.
Spectrum® 625
This rugged, 57-lb. air plasma cutter produces outstanding cut quality on 1/2-in. steel at a rate of 10 inches per minute using a hand-held torch. It has a rated output of 40 amps/140 VDC at 50 percent duty cycle. When paired with an engine drive with at least 8kW of generator power, the Spectrum 625 can cut steel up to 5/8-in. thick.
