Measuring 14 in. wide, Smartwinder-XL is designed for slitting and traverse winding materials that require minimum product backbend and lateral movement. Computerized system includes 2-position cantilevered unwind for supply rolls to 48 in. OD with auto edge guide and programmable tension control. Each of 16 cantilevered traverse winding positions accommodates spools up to 20 in. W x 25 in. OD. Operating up to 750 fpm, slitter accommodates assemblies for shear, score, and razor slitting.

Slitting & 16 Position Computerized Smartwinder-Xl System
Moves the traversing spool under the stationary input of the slit strand
Independent Machine Co. of Fairfield, NJ has developed its latest system for slitting and traverse winding a wide range of pressure sensitive coated materials that requires minimum product backbend and lateral movement to ensure the integrity of the slit strand. The IMC XL spooling modules move the spool under the fixed input of the slit strand to ensure the material does not move laterally from slit to final spool.
The new 14" wide system includes a 2-Position cantilevered unwind for supply rolls to 48" OD with auto edge guide and programmable tension control. The slitter is the main speed reference for the system with a range to 750 FPM and accommodates interchangeable assemblies for shear, score and razor slitting. Edge trim is wound at a dual position traversing take-up.
Each of the 16 cantilevered Smartwinder-2000(TM) traverse winding positions accommodates spools up to 20" wide x 25" OD. The system is easily expandable for additional winding positions. Each position operates completely independent of all other positions and has a computerized, fully adjustable, servo driven traverse that will vary pitch, stroke length, end dwell and winding pattern by laterally moving the spool through Smartwinders software.
Precise programmable rewind tension at each position accurate to within 7 grams is controlled by a closed loop follower drive system through the exclusive IMC Dancer/Tension Controller with a 25:1 tension range. The operator Touchscreen has recipe storage capability for all winding operating parameters and machine function settings. Other features include: non stick finish adhesive contact points, Allen-Bradley PLC and Panelview Touchscreen .
