AeroScout Launches T3 Series Wi-Fi-Based Active RFID Tag

SAN MATEO, Calif., Feb. 26 /- AeroScout Inc., the leading provider of Wi-Fi-based Active RFID solutions, has launched the AeroScout T3 Tag, the industry's most advanced, feature-rich tag for asset and people tracking and real-time location solutions.

The AeroScout T3 Tag builds on the company's innovation and expertise as the creator of both the market's original Wi-Fi tag, and the current market- leading T2 Tag. The T3 Tag combines the proven benefits of AeroScout's asset tracking capabilities with a new streamlined, flat shape, low power consumption, and advanced capabilities to meet a wide variety of customer needs.

"Our customers identified a real need for a low-profile tag that could track assets efficiently and discreetly, especially in healthcare, manufacturing and IT asset tracking," said Gabi Daniely, vice president of marketing and product strategy at AeroScout. "Our challenge was to develop a compact tag with an advanced feature set, without sacrificing the high performance that has made our T2 tags so successful. We feel confident that with the T3 and T2 tags, AeroScout solutions can meet the broadest set of customer needs."

AeroScout develops complete Active RFID solutions for a range of industries, and has successfully provided high-value installations with thousands of tags to customers in healthcare, manufacturing, logistics and other environments. For example, within the healthcare industry, AeroScout solutions improve patient care by locating high-value medical equipment as well as patients, and triggering alerts based on movement or status. Likewise, manufacturers utilize AeroScout solutions to improve throughput by tracking work-in-process inventory items such as aircraft parts.

"Tracking thousands of pieces of test equipment through our customer service center has already delivered proven success for the AeroScout system," said Jim McNally, Director of Product Service, JDSU. "The T3 tag will provide a critical new layer of capabilities, with the flat form factor that our equipment requires and the advanced functionality to gain even more value for both ourselves and our customers."

Key features of the new AeroScout T3 Tag include:

o Small, convenient size -- the new "credit card" rugged form factor easily attaches to a variety of compact equipment, including medical devices, IT equipment, containers, manufacturing machinery and vehicles. Its low profile makes it ideal for people tracking, as it can be easily clipped onto a standard badge clip or one of several other mounting options.

o Efficient power consumption -- the T3 tag utilizes AeroScout's innovative low-power communication method, providing the most efficient use of battery life of any tag currently on the market. Despite the tag's small form factor, it provides up to 4 years of battery life with a replaceable battery. In addition, the tag's built-in motion sensor intelligently conserves battery life in the field.

o Seamless indoor-outdoor reliability -- AeroScout offers the only Wi-Fi tags to provide integrated RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) and TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) location options, providing the unique ability to function seamlessly and accurately in any environment, whether indoors or outdoors.

o Choke point detection capabilities -- unlike other Wi-Fi tags, the T3 includes a built-in "choke-point" mechanism, enabling the tag to be triggered precisely at doorways, gateways or enclosed areas. This enables highly reliable and accurate room-level, shelf-level or gate-level tag detection, as well as precise real-time alerts through the AeroScout MobileView enterprise software.

o Tamper-proofing -- an advanced tamper-proofing mechanism for security and theft prevention. This triggers an immediate alert if the tag is removed or tampered with in any way.

o Other advanced features -- the T3 tag also includes two call buttons for alerting and status reporting; an optional on-board temperature sensor; data telemetry capability through an external serial interface; certified non- interference with other devices and Wi-Fi data; and multiple LED indicators.

"AeroScout has been at the forefront of developing both reliable and innovative tag solutions, and the T3 tag represents another major step forward for the market," said Mike Liard, Research Director at ABI Research. "As the market for Wi-Fi-based Active RFID continues to show strong growth, AeroScout is actively developing new capabilities that will enable them to respond to real customer needs."

AeroScout will exhibit the new T3 tag in booth #4205 at HIMSS07, the premier Healthcare IT show, taking place this week in New Orleans.
