White LED Lamp Replaces Fluorescent Lights for Vision Applications

Proprietary Technology Turns LED's Into Linear Tube-like Emitters

Metaphase Technologies, a premier technical lighting manufacturer for the machine vision and inspection market, releases the industries first line of direct replacement LED fluorescent fixture-- MetaWhite-Isolight(TM).

This versatile ultra-white, isotropic LED light source is currently offered in 8", 14" and 24" lengths with rugged one piece aluminum enclosures and an integrated patent pending anisotropic micro-lens diffuser. The high brightness LED lights also feature built-in electronic LED drivers for compactness and safety, an integrated LED case heat sink for high output and longevity and a choice of power for 24VDC or AC operation. For the latter the lights are available with an optional CE rated AC/DC converter which supports international voltages from AC cord sets and wall plugs. The new CE rated lights are designed to replace high frequency fluorescent lights by utilizing existing bracket mounting pattern of its leading fluorescent competitors, but also include the added value of an innovative 90° tilt clamp for more versatile mounting configurations.

According to Metaphase's President Oliver Szeto, "the new Metaphase Technologies Isolight(TM) embodies all of the past qualities of fluorescent lighting such as a low cost compact linear packaging; ultra-white light, diffused shadow free illumination... but without any of the liabilities of traditional glass tube lamps such as unwanted UV wavelengths, breakable glass tubes or the fluorescent lamp's toxicity or unpredictable lifetimes."

Boasting the same Metaphase patented thermal management technology as the rest of their line of MetaLight(TM) and MetaBright(TM) lighting along with an exclusive anisotropic diffuser which produces a true soft focus isotropic light; Isolight(TM) lamps are said to mimic the linear tube-like quality of light emitted from T3 and T5 fluorescent tubes while providing all of the advantages of LED's. The new lights have a 50,000 hour lifespan, superior color temperature stability and low power consumption. "For many years" adds Szeto, "the modern machine vision user integrator has understood the advantage of LED lighting however, not until now has the cost, color and form factor been competitive to the point where it can be considered a drop-in replacement for the fluorescent tube."

Light output on the Isolight(TM) is alleged to be 3-4 times brighter than a fluorescent light of similar size in part due the inherent efficiency of LED's and the fact that Isolights(TM) offers light emission over the total length of the lens surface.

"While it is no secret that the efficiency and reliability of LED's technology continues to overtake old-fashioned fluorescent tubes as the lighting of choice for machine vision application, we've now created the versatile Isolight(TM) to help our customers fill that vacuum," says Steven Evers, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the firm. "With the market now ready for the change, look for our technology to be applied to the whole line of the new MetaWhite(TM) LED fluorescent replacement lighting products."
