July 6, 2011 - DFense Blok(TM) alumina ceramic bead-filled epoxy compound, when used with surface wetting agent, increases drop impact strength over 1 in. ceramic tile as tested using 85 lb weight with 0.25 in.² striking surface. It also withstood abrasion testing via No. 14 silicon carbide blasted at 40 psi and 45° angle. With working time of 25 min, non-sagging compound can be applied by trowel at thicknesses of ¾ in. on vertical surfaces and ½ in. on overhead surfaces. Functional cure occurs in 4-5 hr.

Devcon® Dfense Blok(TM) Revolutionizes Wear & Abrasion Protection

DANVERS, MA - DFense Blok(TM) wearing compound, from ITW Devcon®, is specially formulated to outperform and outlast traditional epoxy wear and abrasion products - even in the most severe impact and sliding abrasion conditions.

DFense Blok(TM) is a new, innovative alumina ceramic bead-filled epoxy compound that, when used with DFense Blok(TM) Surface Wetting Agent, drastically increases drop impact strength over 1" ceramic tile (tested using 85 lb. weight with 0.25 sq. in. striking surface). Abrasion resistance is significantly better than traditional epoxy products (per grit-blast abrasion testing: #14 silicon carbide blasted at 40 psi, 45° angle). DFense Blok(TM) Surface Wetting Agent is a 2-part thixotropic epoxy gel system that improves the ease of application and cured adhesion properties of DFense Blok(TM) wearing compound.

DFense Blok(TM) is ideal for use in repairing, rebuilding and protecting typical wear and abrasion applications such as pipe elbows, scrubbers, ash handling systems, cyclones, fan blades, pump boxes, float cells, screw conveyors and augers, etc. In areas that cannot be welded or where sufficient surface preparation cannot be performed, it is recommended to first apply a coat of DFense Blok(TM) Surface Wetting Agent. DFense Blok(TM) can also be used in place of abrasion-resistant metal and ceramic tile.

Available in 30-lb. pails, DFense Blok(TM) is mixed in a 2:1 ratio and has a working time of 25 minutes at room temperature. A non-sagging compound, it can be easily applied by trowel at thicknesses of ¾" on vertical surfaces and ½" on overhead surfaces. It achieves functional cure in only 4-5 hours, allowing equipment to be returned to service in hours, not days. It has superior wear and abrasion resistance, withstands high-impact conditions and withstands service temperatures up to 300° F.

Using DFense Blok(TM) Surface Wetting Agent significantly improves the adhesion of DFense Blok(TM) compared to traditional epoxy products (per ASTM D 1002). Once it has been applied, there is no wait time before applying DFense Blok(TM) wearing compound. DFense Blok(TM) Surface Wetting Agent's orange color ensures complete surface coverage and facilitates visual inspection. A single 1-pound kit provides enough surface coverage for 30 pounds of DFense Blok(TM).
