Agilent Technologies Introduces Industry's First 20 MHz Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generator with Pulse Function and Pulse Width Modulation

Instrument Provides Engineers with Unmatched Performance for the Design and Test of New Electronic Components and Products for Less Than $1,900

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 3, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the first 20 MHz function/arbitrary waveform generator with variable edge pulses and pulse width modulation (PWM). The combination of the new pulse function with the Agilent 33220A's 50 MSa/s, 14 bit, 64K-point arbitrary waveform capability provides engineers in the electronics, automotive, aerospace, government, medical and computer industries with unmatched performance for the design, verification, and test of electronic components, sub-assemblies and end products.

The Agilent 33220A, priced at less than $1,900, is the first 20 MHz function/arbitrary waveform generator in its price range to combine variable edge pulse and PWM functionality with a 50 MSa/s, 14 bit, 64K-point arbitrary waveform capability.

"With the continued growth of digital design and electronic controls, engineers need the ability to create pulses with variable edge times and modulated pulse widths," said Scott Sampl, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Basic, Emerging and Systems Technology operation. "Agilent has always been the leader in supplying high-performance general purpose instrumentation for R&D and manufacturing engineers and we expect that with this new function, this generator will become an essential instrument on engineer test benches."

The Agilent 33220A 20 MHz function/arbitrary waveform generator uses direct digital synthesis (DDS) techniques to create stable, accurate and clean output signals with low distortion, including 14 bit, 64K-point arbitrary waveforms. An optional external time-base reference provides a 10 MHz clock signal to synchronize multiple units together for multi-channel applications.

The ability to generate variable edge-time pulses up to 5 MHz, with selectable period, pulse width and amplitude, makes the Agilent 33220A ideally suited to a wide variety of electronic applications requiring flexible pulse signals. The 33120A also provides design engineers direct access to basic functions and simplified access to arbitrary waveforms for faster test results.

The Agilent 33220A is the company's first instrument to provide universal serial bus (USB), Ethernet and general purpose interface bus (GPIB) interfaces as standard features, allowing quick and simple connectivity to a PC, other instruments in a test system, or to a network for access across an engineering workgroup. The function generator also can be operated from a remote location using the 33220A Web page virtual front panel. Any of these three interfaces enable engineers to create arbitrary waveforms with Agilent's IntuiLink waveform editor software or other Microsoft Windows®-based applications, and download a waveform to the 33220A for output.

Additional information on Agilent's new function generator and the company's complete line of general-purpose instruments is available at www.agilent.com/find/33220A.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
The Agilent 33220A function/arbitrary waveform generator is priced at $1,850, and the Opt-00 external time base reference is $450. Both are available now.
