SST Communications Delivers New Dual-Band WLAN Power Amplifier With Industry Leading Linear Output Power

The SST13LP02 Offers High Output Power and Wide Bandwidth; Includes On-Chip Power Detector for Lower System Cost

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 4 -- SST Communications, a developer of RF integrated circuits for a wide range of wireless and multimedia applications, and a subsidiary of SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:SSTI)), a leader in flash memory technology, today announced a new power amplifier, the SST13LP02, offering the industry's highest linear output power for dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) coverage. The SST13LP02 features an on-chip, load-insensitive power detector designed to result in better performance and lower system cost for designers of notebook PC-based networking applications such as PCMCIA, MiniPCI and USB cards, as well as access points and multimedia (A/V) equipment.

"The performance and cost-savings benefits of the SST13LP02 enable our customers to tackle some of their most important design requirements," said Dr. Frank Chang, vice chairman and chief technical adviser, SST Communications. "Our testing shows that the SST13LP02 can achieve up to a 25 percent increase in transmission range and a 25 percent reduction in total- cost-of-ownership to our customers."

The SST13LP02 supports 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g and 5 GHz 802.11a standards. For 802.11a, the SST13LP02 covers the complete 4.9-5.8 GHz bands allocated in the United States, Japan and Europe. Key specifications of the device include:
-- High output power for dual-band coverage: 20dBm for 802.11b, 18dBm for 802.11g and 18dBm for 802.11a applications
-- High gain of 26dB in the 2.4 GHz band and 30dB in the 5 GHz band
-- Integrated, wide-range (>20dB), temperature-stable (1.5dB over 85 degrees C) on-chip power detector that can tolerate output mismatch of VSWR>2:1 at all angles
-- On-off switching controllable by a baseband chip with a minimum reference current (~2 milliamperes)

Pricing and Availability
Manufactured using a highly reliable InGaP HBT process with tested accelerated MTT >10(8) hours at 85 degrees C, the SST13LP02 is sampling now. Production quantities are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2005. Pricing for the device is $1.23 each, in 10K unit quantities. The SST13LP02 is offered in a 4x4 mm(2) QFN package. More information on the SST13LP02 and other power amplifier solutions can be found on the SST website at http://www.sst.com/ .
