Marvell Announces Industry's First 802.11n 450 Mbps Solution for Highest Wi-Fi Throughput and Extended Range

New Marvell TopDog 11n-450 Offers Peak Performance for PCs, Notebooks, Routers, Printers and Consumer Electronics Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 2 /-- Marvell (NASDAQ:MRVL) announced today the Marvell(R) TopDog(R) 11n-450, an 802.11n 3x3 WLAN solution with three spatial streams, the industry's first 802.11n chip operating at 450 Megabits-per-second (Mbps). With maximum bandwidth more than eight times faster than 802.11g 54 Mbps versions and 1.5 times faster than current 802.11n 300 Mbps offerings, the new product will enable significant performance enhancements for notebooks and desktop PCs, printers, routers, set top boxes, digital TVs, gaming devices and DVD players and recorders. The TopDog 11n-450 provides 500 percent increased range over 802.11g, as well as 160 percent increased range compared to competing 802.11n solutions.

"Marvell is first-to-market with an 802.11n 450 Mbps solution so manufacturers can deliver industry-leading wireless range and performance to consumers who are seeking faster and more powerful Wi-Fi capabilities," said Sameer Bidichandani, senior director of technology strategy, Marvell Semiconductor. "Compliant with the 802.11n specification, the new Marvell TopDog 11n-450 chip also offers Marvell-engineered enhancements to the specification, such as Special Time Block Coding (STBC), that helps maintain higher throughput over longer distances."

For example, a user can move further from their wireless source while performing real-time streaming video in multiple sessions, without experiencing weaker signal strength, freezing frames or slower throughput.

The TopDog 11n-450 delivers 3x3 capabilities with three transmitters and three receivers, and is built on 90-nanometer (nm) CMOS process technology making it a lower-power, lower-cost solution on top of its higher range and performance. The product is backward-compatible with previous 802.11a, b, g and n versions and currently sampling. It is expected to begin shipping in volume next quarter.

Marvell will be showcasing the new Marvell TopDog 11n-450, as well as its cellular, video processing and power efficient products at CES Booth # 30651 in the South Hall.
