January 25, 2011 - Compatible with single- and multi-mode fiber, model 5101 is suited for fiber optic network maintenance in telecommunications and CATV systems. It features end-to-end visual fiber identification and can detect breaks and micro-bends through jacketed fiber. Offering wavelengths from 640-660 nm, instrument has measurement range is up to 5 km and operates for 30 hr per battery charge. Universal connector enables use with various patch cords, ribbons, or bunched pigtails.

Rugged Visual Fault Locator


Toronto, Canada - GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com) has announced the availability of its visual fault locator which is widely used for fiber optic network maintenance in telecommunications and CATV systems. It is an ideal tool for both single-mode and multi-mode fiber.

This visual fault locator, model 5101, features end- to-end visual fiber identification and detects breaks and micro-bends through jacketed fiber. This VFL offers wavelengths from 640 to 660nm.With its rugged design, a universal connector and accurate measurement, this VFL is able to examine all kinds of patch cords, ribbons or bunched pigtails in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks. Its measurement range is up to 5km and it has an operating time of 30 hours on a single battery charge.
