Basler Launches "ace" - The Smallest GigE Vision Camera
The ground-breaking Basler ace camera series offers a 29 x 29 mm footprint, Power over Ethernet, and starts at an entry level price of 299.
Ahrensburg, 3 November 2009 - Basler Vision Technologies launched a new series of ground-breaking industrial Gigabit Ethernet cameras, the Basler ace series, at the VISION show in Stuttgart, Germany.
These cameras are designed to meet the cost demands of analog camera users while offering all of the technological advantages of a digital camera. This goal has been achieved by a strictly cost-driven product design that leverages Basler's market leading position in GigE based cameras while maintaining Basler's high quality standards. And all of this is topped by entry-level pricing of 299.
The cameras provide an extremely small 29 x 29 mm footprint, Power over Ethernet, high-performance features, and very easy integration on both the hardware and software sides.
The ace series will initially consist of four camera models in monochrome and color with resolutions from VGA to two megapixels and featuring a C-mount adapter. All cameras are equipped with a CCD sensor.
The first ace models will be available in March 2010.
Smallest Footprint
The ace camera series is targeting the replacement of analog cameras, USB cameras, and IEEE 1394a and b cameras that are based on the standard 29 x 29 mm footprint. Up until now, this footprint has not been available on cameras with a Gigabit Ethernet interface and this fact has limited the use of GigE Vision technology in many applications. The ace camera series breaks this barrier and makes GigE technology suitable for space-critical applications. Because ace cameras have a mechanical mounting and optical concept identical to most analog, USB, and IEEE 1394 cameras, the integration effort required for an ace camera is low.
Extended Set of Features
Even though the size of the ace camera series is very small, there is no compromise on features. The ace series offers all of the basic features required on a digital camera series and much more. The high-performance FPGA used in these cameras is packed with exciting features, such as several automatic parameter adjustment functions, and includes helpful new features like an optimized software trigger function for high-speed triggering via the GigE bus. In addition, the camera has a Power over Ethernet option available, which makes connecting GigE cameras less complex and even cheaper by eliminating the need for a second cable.

"Basler ace cameras can be connected using a single standard, low-cost Gigabit Ethernet cable that provides both data and power. This is a great improvement for our customers and will lower their integration and maintenance effort."
Easy Software Integration
The integration on the software side is also extremely simple. Basler provides the pylon software package, a free-of-charge SDK and Viewer Tool, with plenty of sample programs to help users get started quickly with their ace camera. The pylon software package runs on Windows and Linux and can be used with all common development environments.
