Atego Releases Aonix Perc Ultra for VxWorks MILS 2.1

Embedded and real-time virtual machine now available to multi-partitioned secure RTOS platform deployments

San Diego, USA and Cheltenham, UK - Atego, the leading independent supplier of industrial-grade, collaborative development tools for engineering complex, mission- and safety-critical architectures, systems, software and hardware, announces the release of Aonix Perc Ultra® with support for execution on Wind River's VxWorks MILS Platform 2.1. Aonix Perc Ultra for VxWorks MILS responds to the need for Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) that enables deployment of embedded and real-time Java(TM) applications where applications with different security levels can execute within the same system.

Atego's flagship Virtual Machine technology and supporting tool chain, Aonix Perc Ultra is one of the most deployed embedded and real-time Virtual Machines in the industry. It is deployed in a broad range of time-critical applications ranging from the Aegis weapons system on the guided missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill to the in-flight entertainment and cabin management systems on the Cessna Citation CJ4 business jet.

VxWorks MILS Platform 2.1, released in September 2010, implements a high performance and scalable Type 1 hypervisor-based embedded separation kernel, and includes a high assurance environment designed for Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 6+ user components including applications, middleware, and drivers. Additionally, the product provides a High Assurance Network Stack enabling MILS-based secure networking, which is a critical component for cross domain solutions (CDS) and Multi-Level Secure (MLS) connected devices.

Aonix Perc Ultra for VxWorks MILS fully supports both the new High Assurance Network Stack and the General Network Stack interchangeably, in addition to execution from within the separated partitions of VxWorks MILS-based platforms. With the release of Aonix Perc Ultra for VxWorks MILS, not only will users be able to deploy Java on a VxWorks guest OS within secure partitions, but also on a Wind River Linux guest OS within partitions, both targeting PowerPC processors.

"Joint customer demand from multiple customers in advance of availability is always desirable, and a key indicator of how our companies have a successful alliance," said James B. Gambrell, Chairman at Atego. "Atego and Wind River have worked very well together to address the needs of our shared customers and we look forward to many more coordinated product offerings. The integration between our Aonix Perc Ultra virtual machine and an industry-leading MILS environment further supports Atego's capabilities as we deliver the industry's most rigorous Java solution for MILS systems."

"The availability of an industrial-strength Java virtual machine like Aonix Perc Ultra on VxWorks MILS further helps our shared customers in the development of complex systems which must adhere to the most stringent safety and security needs," said Chip Downing, Senior Director of Aerospace and Defense at Wind River. "Aerospace and defense customers are especially concerned with performance, scalability, and deterministic behavior for their mission-critical systems. Growing security threats add a new urgency to projects, making powerful solutions such as the combination of Aonix Perc Ultra and VxWorks MILS increasingly important."
