Parlec Introduces Next Generation Measuring System for Tool Presetting



FAIRPORT, N.Y. - Parlec Inc., a worldwide leader in tooling, workholding and presetting solutions, has developed the next generation of high-resolution video measuring system. The ParleVision PSC(TM), an embedded imaging control system used for precise tool measuring and inspection, is manufactured exclusively by Parlec. It will be introduced this Fall at the IMTS at Booth E-2804. This is the first tool presetting system to apply this micro-imaging technology to ultra-precise tool measuring and inspection applications.

Utilizing a Micron Technology DigitalClarity(TM) megapixel sensor, the ParleVision PSC imaging system utilizes a standard LCD monitor and mouse, or an optional touchscreen monitor, to provide presetter operators fast and easy one-touch execution of all measuring and inspection functions. Dynamic crosshairs automatically find and track the cutting tool edge, while tool geometry is instantly displayed on the screen for review by the operator. The system stores nominal tool data for up to 500 tools, prints multiple label formats, handles an unlimited number of zero calibration points, and interfaces to CNC Cell Control and FMS systems.

"Most of the sensors used today in precision measuring are CCD arrays that create a relatively large pixel size, which varies with changes in temperature and humidity," explains Chris Nuccitelli, Parlec's Product Manager for Tool Measuring & Inspection Systems. "This new imaging sensor uses the latest CMOS technology that significantly reduces the pixel size, allowing our programmers to create algorithms that resolve and measure at the sub-micron level with incredible image stability."

Flexible configuration of axial orientation and measurement values allow the ParleVision PSC system to be used for both turning and milling applications on one vertical presetter platform. This system is also the foundation for Parlec's redesigned Parsetter TMM® line of tool presetting, measuring and inspection systems, which offer bench top presetting for milling and turning applications as well as full three-axis automation, systems integration, and comprehensive tool data communication.
