DirectDrive® Video Filter Amplifier Integrates Short-to-Battery Protection for Automotive Applications

Automotive DirectDrive video filter amp integrates short-to-battery protection.

SUNNYVALE, CA-July 20, 2009-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9532, an analog video filter amplifier that drives standard-definition (SD) video connections to an in-dash or rear-seat automotive display. Designed specifically to withstand the harsh operating conditions in automotive applications, the MAX9532 integrates short-to-battery protection up to 18V on the video output, thus eliminating the need for an external series resistor. This device provides the highest degree of reliability for automotive safety applications-such as backup cameras-and infotainment systems.

In addition, the MAX9532 employs Maxim's patented DirectDrive technology* to operate from a single 3.3V supply while driving an industry-standard video signal without a DC offset. With DirectDrive circuitry, the MAX9532 automatically removes the DC offset, places the video black level at ground, and puts the sync-tip below ground. This innovative approach ensures a visibly flawless picture, while eliminating the large, costly external DC-blocking capacitors required by conventional solutions.

The MAX9532 delivers superb video quality to any in-dash display by providing the filtering needed to attenuate high-frequency artifacts and noise in the video signal. The integrated high-order filter features ±1dB passband flatness up to 9.5MHz and 42dB attenuation at 27MHz, thereby ensuring video signal integrity in automotive designs.

Available in a 3mm x 3mm, 10-pin µMAX® package, the MAX9532 operates from a single 2.7V to 3.6V supply and is fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. Prices start at $0.39 (1000-up, FOB USA).
