June 17, 2003 - Portable, tabletop Series 8000 uses active feedback to achieve high levels of vibration isolation for high-resolution instruments. It dynamically isolates all 6 possible translational and rotational modes of vibration with low natural frequency of 0.7 Hz. Microprocessor-controlled, automatic leveling mechanism rapidly adjusts to different loads up to 330 lb without user intervention. Isolation begins at 1.0 Hz and increases rapidly to 40 dB at 10 Hz.

Active Vibration Control System Is Precise, Portable

BOSTON, MA — A new portable system from Kinetic Systems, Inc., uses active feedback to achieve very high levels of vibration isolation for a variety of high-resolution instruments such as interferometers and photo imaging microscopes. Designated the 8000 Series, the tabletop unit dynamically isolates all six possible translational and rotational modes of vibration. With an ultra-low natural frequency (0.7 Hz), the system produces no low-frequency resonance.

The 8000 Series actively damps vibrations from 1.0 to 1000 Hz, whether the source is the building or a piece of equipment on the same table. Its precise, microprocessor-controlled, automatic leveling mechanism rapidly adjusts to different loads without user intervention. Its isolation begins at 1.0 Hz and increases rapidly to 40 dB at 10 Hz. With a load capacity of 330 lbs. (150 kg), the compact system measures 15.75” (400) x 17.75” (450) x 3” (75). The standard aluminum model weighs only 40 lbs. (18 kg), yet it is 500 times stiffer than air tables. For vibrations above 1000 Hz, the unit provides passive vibration control.

For monitoring purposes, the 8000 Series produces a multiplexed signal that can be used by an oscilloscope to display vibration levels of the unit with and without isolation. The device is also available with a ferromagnetic tabletop and with mounting holes.
