Vertical Turning/Milling Machine suits large, complex parts.September 15, 2004 -
Model VTM-80YB offers X-, Y-, and Z-axis travel of 44.0, ±13.98, and 44.69 in., respectively. Pivoting spindle B-axis, combined with rotating C-axis, can accomplish indexing, 5-axis machining. B-axis can be used to drill horizontal, vertical, and diagonal holes, while long-stroke Y-axis permits high-speed, high-precision drilling. Machine accepts loads up to 3,300 lb and features 18.5/15 kW tool spindle drive, 30/22 kW work spindle, and 36-tool magazine.

New O&H VTM-80YB - Vertical Turning and Milling in Five Axes
Okuma & Howa introduced the new VTM-80YB at the KGK Booth #8745 during IMTS 2004. Ideal for large complex part production, the VTIM-80YB offers X, Y and Z axis travel of 1120mm (44.0 in), ±355mm (±13.98in) and 1135mm (44.69in), respectively. The pivoting spindle B-axis combined with the rotating C-axis can accomplish indexing 5-axis machining for complex parts and offer reduced set-up time and single chucking simplicity, thereby eliminating set-up time in conventional applications. An 18.5/15kW tool spindle drive and a 30/22kW work spindle provide power for hard machining operation in new alloys or exotic materials. A 36-tool magazine is standard.
Construction - Flexible Design
Designed with highly rigid box ways and a high precision table clamping system, the VTM-80YB provides unique advantages in flexibility.
The pivoting B-axis can be used to drill horizontal, vertical and diagonal holes with the same standard tool, while the long stroke Y-axis permits high speed, high precision drilling. Vertical mounting of parts ensures stability and eliminates run-out, and the VTM-80YB is designed to accept loads (parts plus chuck) of up to 3,300 lbs.
According to Mark Davis, Okuma & Howa Product Manager, "The VTM-80YB is designed to excel in both production and prototype applications. The agility of the machine, complemented by its strength and stability, results in a configuration that can master virtually any large complex part in its size range. The 5-axis controller reduces machining time and tool costs by improving cutting efficiency and a control package is extremely user friendly and available with multiple options."
