QP2040VMCs for High Speed Machining

Chevalier's new QP series VMCs with box ways are available with a high speed machining package that includes 25HP dual winding spindle motor, absolute encoder on 3 axes, direct drive Z axis and FANUC OiM conversational control with AI preview function, digital servo, spindle drives and motors and graphic display. These 40 taper machines are prepped with all the wirings, hoses and fittings to accommodate future upgrades such as the 4th axis, spindle oil cooler and coolant through spindle. Belt drive models come with 10,000rpm 25HP spindle and coolant circulation while direct drive models are offered with either 12,000 or 15,000rpm spindles. XYZ rapids are 945/945/787ipm while feedrate is 394ipm. Machine footprint is 112" x 81" x 101". Features include 24 tools arm type ATC (opt. 32 tools), high speed rigid tapping, remote MPG and pull-out chip drawers. A ring type coolant nozzle in the air purged spindle provides coolant to prevent thermal buildup between tool and workpiece. Slanted inside front walls, sloping way covers and a standard chip flushing system wash chips down into the chip drawers. Models with dual chip augers and a chip conveyor are offered to shops requiring quicker chip disposal. With 48" x 20" table size and 40" x 20.5" x 20" XYZ travels, the QP series can handle workpieces up to 1320lbs while generating 4930 lbs maximum thrust force in the X axis. The QP series features heavy Meehanite castings with ribbed frame and wide stance machine configuration to help increase rigidity, dampen vibration and extend tool life. Despite the small footprint, net machine weight is 14,100lbs. A bi-directional, random access tool changer accepts tooling up to 15 lbs and features a floating type tool discharge system to eliminate the stress generated by the tool release cylinders. Tool change time is 1.8 secs tool to tool and 3.8 secs chip to chip. It uses pretensioned Class C3 1.57" ballscrews with .472" pitch and servo motors directly coupled to the ballscrews for precise positioning.
