Agilent Technologies' New Spectrum Analyzer-Based Solution First to Offer 80 MHz Analysis Bandwidth, Eight-Second Capture Memory

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 21, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the industry's first spectrum analyzer solution providing 80 MHz demodulation bandwidth and eight-second capture memory for multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA), signal monitoring, radar and satellite measurement applications.

The Agilent PSA-80BW wide-bandwidth vector spectrum analyzer solution eliminates the need for engineers to spend unnecessary time designing wide-bandwidth test systems, which allows them to focus instead on their specific next-generation base station or modern aerospace defense system component designs. This extremely wide bandwidth and exceptionally long capture period results in more thorough signal characterization and improved digital predistortion (DPD) measurements.

The PSA-80BW provides up to 20 GHz frequency coverage, 0.1 dB amplitude flatness, 0.7 degree phase flatness and offers optional 1.2 Gbyte (768 Msamples) deep capture memory to provide eight seconds of full bandwidth capture at the maximum sample rate.

"Our customers have told us that they require a minimum of 60 MHz acquisition bandwidth for four-carrier W-CDMA or 16-carrier cdma2000 applications and 66 MHz for wireless LAN access point digital pre-distortion" said Pat Byrne, vice president and general manager of Agilent's RF and microwave business unit. "With the new 80 MHz spectrum analyzer solution, Agilent continues to lead the industry in wide-bandwidth high-dynamic range spectrum analysis."

The PSA-80BW is also well suited for error vector modulation (EVM) and group delay measurements of satellite transponders. Now, satellite design engineers can achieve more accurate transponder characterization by directly measuring the group delay on the 50 MHz-wide transmit signal rather than infer group delay from measurements made at the IF frequency.

Unlike custom-built test systems, the PSA-80BW wide bandwidth vector spectrum analyzer solution is based on fully supported, commercially available instruments. In addition, the solution is compatible with the Agilent 89600 series flexible demodulation software, the Advanced Design System (ADS) and MATLABŪ. The PSA-80WB solution comprises an Agilent E444X PSA spectrum analyzer and an Agilent 89610A vector signal analyzer. To perform the external calibration routine, either an Agilent E4438C ESG or an Agilent E8267C PSG signal generator is required.

Additional information is available at www.agilent.com/find/PSA80BW.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
The Agilent PSA-80BW wide-bandwidth vector spectrum analyzer solution is available now in basic RF and microwave configurations with optional eight-second capture memory.

Basic RF configuration starts at $108,752 and requires an Agilent E4438C ESG signal generator. Basic microwave configuration starts at $138,771 and requires an Agilent E8267C PSG signal generator. Upgrades are available to enable existing PSA series spectrum analyzers and 89600 series vector signal analyzers to work in the PSA-80WB solution.
